I used to get Dairy Queen a lot a couple years ago, I went and got some today and am disappointed in the stark difference of quality. Here is my constructive criticism to the Dairy Queen owners at Santa Fe Place Mall.
Go back to the original menu. Everything on the menu now is double meat and the burger doesn't come with onions, tomatoes, or lettuce. I could forgive the rising prices if it still had the quality it did before. But the burger I got was tough and hard to chew, the bun looked like it was stomped, barely any condiments, no fresh crunchy lettuce, no fresh onions, and no tomatoes. I excluded mentioning the cheese because I don't specifically remember how it was in the past, so I can't say if it's good or bad. Sad to see how the burger has changed. It used to be smaller than a Big Mac or Whopper, but made up for it by having better ingredients and more of a home-made feeling. But now it tastes like burgers from a Chinese buffet. I was one bit into my burger and threw it in the trash.
The fries used to be hot and crispy, and now they're soft. It's still okay but it used to be great. I've never made fries so I can't tell you what to do to make them crispier.
Now there's a huge of selections of drinks to get. But I would recommend to just stick to the common drinks like Coca-Cola, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, etc. I asked for Coca-Cola, but they were out and was instead offered Coca-Cola Cherry. Why are you out of the most common soft drink in the middle of the day? And the drink itself tasted a bit off. Having a larger variety of options is not needed, stick to the most common drinks.
If you want a frozen treat, Dairy Queen is the absolute best place. They are 5/5. But I do have constructive criticism. I got the Royal New York Cheesecake Blizzard and it was great. But when I went again and got it, the half was great, but it got worse as you got closer to the bottom. It seemed like only the top half was mixed with the cheesecake, strawberries, and strawberry syrup, while the bottom half was just vanilla ice cream. The third time I got the Blizzard, it had the same problem as before, but there wasn't any strawberry syrup. There is varying quality on the same Blizzard that should not happen.
One improvement that is worth mentioning is the electronic cards that buzz once your order is ready. Definitely better than the old way of shouting the order number. The cards allow you to go and sit down without needing to be constantly vigilant about when your order is going to come.
Another thing that I like is they always staple the bags so they're secure. The straws and napkins are easily accessible. And there's also hand sanitizer to make sure you're eating with clean hands.
It seems like there has been shortcuts made to everything for the sake of profit. There's double meat burgers to quickly sell meat inventory. No fresh lettuce, tomatoes, or onions to save on ingredient cost. Lower quality meat and buns to also save on costs. I can't comment on the fries because I don't know the behind-the-scenes quality and cost. It's a smart business model that maximizes profit, but at the cost of the customer. You probably get a lot of foot-traffic from new customers, but you are pushing away your returning customers. This is no longer the affordable, tasty option that it once was.
I really hope you think about my comments. I was really disappointed with my meal. It was my reward to myself after shoveling snow, and it was a big letdown. I really hope something changes at the Dairy Queen in the Santa...
Read morePrices have really gone up! I was surprised that a lunch combo was $10. So I got a child's meal which wound up being a perfect amount of food for an adult and was $6. It comes with two chicken strips, a small french fry I subbed a diet coke for milk or juice, and it comes with a small ice cream cone. Perfect!
They have fried cheese curds which are delicious. If I had it to do over I would ask for cheese curds instead of french fries and pay an upcharge.
My colleague got a regular lunch meal, and it looked fine. When we sat down to eat and he saw what I ordered He said, "why didn't I get that!?".
This is really one of the only places to eat between Gallup and Albuquerque that is convenient and fast (if you are already closer to Gallup and not close to Laguna). Which is why it gets 4 stars. It was clean, the food fresh and not very greasy (even though we got fried food). And I love Dairy Queen's soft serve so the kids cone was a lovely treat with my meal. The service was also fast...
