The food was good, really good; the service was bad, really bad. We had a lot of things we shared amongst ourselves, the oyster mushroom soup was my favorite, so, so good and my friends all really liked their table-side Caesar salads and all the appetizers (minus the fettuccine which was okay I guess) were good. As for the main entrees, the Lobster tails were good, not especially delicious but the fillet mignon was. The fajitas were straight up bad, I don't get why they tasted the way they did.
As for the service, oh man, it started off bad in the typical way like having to call someone else over when we needed things because our server was nowhere in sight. But then it felt more personally bad as the night went on, my friend asked for a fruity cocktail recommendation and he offered something with mango so my friend said sure, it turned out to be just a mocktail. I don't know if the server misheard my friend but he didn't ID anyone at the table, she was 22 and yeah, she has a baby face, but he did serve my other 22 year old friend a cocktail. They got two rounds and my one friend just thought it was a weak cocktail. I also asked him if the coconut shrimp were GF because I wanted my GF friend to have the last one and he laughed and said of course? He later comes back and says he checked and it turns out it was GF, at this point I had already eaten it so I apologized to my friend and he did too, but instead of offering to get us one measly shrimp to make-up for being misinformed, he asked if we wanted to order another round of shrimp. I'm a server myself, I definitely would have asked my manager if we could make that up to the table, not try to sell us more food.
The worst part was how when we were ready to go, our server was nowhere in sight, again, so I finally asked the bus boy if he could ask our server for our check and even then he took a while to come to the table. That wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't storming outside which later caused the restaurant to lose power and them not being able to check any of us out. We had to wait another 30-40 minutes to leave because of this which was infuriating because my friends wanted to leave because it was storming and their dogs don't do well with thunder. It was also just annoying because if he had just grabbed our checks in a timely manner, or when I asked, we could have avoided the power outage and being held hostage. They eventually just agreed to get our credit card information down and let us go, not before charging our party of four gratuity and making a $76 tip off of us for the bad service. I wish that tip could have gone to the bussers, they're the ones who actually refilled our waters and cleared our tables, he just took our order down. Otherwise, more typical bad things like never getting a basket of bread I asked for and having to drink my friends water because I long ran out of mine and we weren't checked on or given more 1/2 times I asked for a refill.
Me and my friends agreed we wouldn't go back just because of how expensive the food was in relation to how bad the service was, but that we at least enjoyed our...
Read moreWe went to Dinner for Two to celebrate our anniversary. What a disappointment! The service was absolutely terrible. First, our appetizers were brought out approximately 30 min after we initially provided our order...okay fine, but when we were done with those, we waited for literally one hour for our entrees after finishing our appetizers. At no time did our main waiter offer to make amends for anything. Another waiter offered to "buy us a drink", but by that time, we had been sitting in the restaurant for almost 2 hours (still no entrees) and were really just ready to leave. The only reason we stayed was b/c we were actually hungry and needed to eat something. I ordered my steak done medium; it came out so bloody, I was absolutely disgusted. I sent it back and it came out again still mostly pink, what most people would consider rare. By the time we were finished with our meal, they had run out of almost every dessert. We ended up with some cake that "the chef had left over in the back", which tasted like crap. When we got the check, we were charged for a bottle of wine that we didn't order. Basically, we felt that our waiter considered us as an afterthought. I can put up with some attitude from waiters, but really, when you mess up, own it and make up for it. We considered that our experience might have been a fluke; however, upon observing other patrons, it seemed that they were also waiting a long time for their meals. Instead of appearing lively and happy to be out to dinner, they appeared worn down. One woman near us knowingly said "good luck with your dinner" as she and her spouse were leaving (during the hour we were waiting for our entrees). Additionally, waiters were rarely in the room at all. While the food was okay and the ambiance quaint, the poor service and lack of attempt to make amends for multiple mistakes put our experience squarely under the purview of "never again!". Sometimes when you go to restaurants things get messed up, but because so many things went wrong and the waiter didn't care at any point, it seemed like this is just what an average night at Dinner for Two is like. We didn't order anything special or make any substitutions; we are generally a very "easy table". In all we weren't able to leave for a total of three hours, forcing us to miss our other plans. What a waste of an...
Read moreWe made reservations for the first night of Restaurant Week but didn't realize that on Sundays they also have a special $20 menu. After looking at both options, we decided to try the Sunday Special.
The soups were both wonderfully delicious. I got the French onion and the boyfriend got the truffled king trumpet mushroom soup. The mushroom soup didn't have any pieces of mushroom, it was more of a puree. The French onion had actual onion rings on top of it. They were very thin and crunchy and wonderful.
For entrees, I went with the tomato and gruyere stuffed chicken and the boyfriend paid the upcharge for the prime rib. What can I say about the chicken? The description says it all, melted gruyere inside of a succulent chicken breast? Cheesy heaven. Sadly, for the boyfriend, he ordered his medium rare and it came out medium well/very well in spots. I couldn't get him to send it back so he just ate it but didn't enjoy it very much.
His dessert was chocolate ice cream with a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. The cookie wasn't soft like we anticipated so he used it as a scoop for the ice cream. My dessert was deceptive. In my dessert's defense, the description listed a donut and ice cream. In my mind, it was going to be some type of cake donut. What arrived was literally a chocolate glazed donut with sprinkles. And pistachio ice cream. I'm not a fan of glazed donuts so I only had one bite, but if that's your thing, then this dessert is definitely for you.
As far as the atmosphere, we loved it. The front part of the restaurant looks like it was a converted diner car but once you get into the back there are several separate but open areas. Meaning, separated by half walls and beams but open and airy. The room we were in had several 2 person tables, the kind that has a booth seat on one side and a chair on the other. I normally don't like that set up because I feel like I'm on top of the table next to me (since they're all connected by the long booth) but there was actually plenty of space in between tables, which gave it a more intimate feel.
This restaurant was probably our favorite one that we visited while in Santa Fe and would love to give their full menu a try next time we...
