Burger Challenge!
Ethyl Burger (4 lbs) - $31 (or free if you can eat it all) - The burger is made to order. I had mine medium, but it came somewhere between medium and medium well, which was fine with me. The burger is two pounds, the bun one pound, and the toppings one pound.
I asked for lettuce, tomato, and onion. The amount of toppings was overwhelming, especially the lettuce, but it does make it easier to eat. The toppings were fresh, especially the potent onions. My breath smelled like onions the next day, though.
You have one hour to finish and you cannot get out of the chair, not even to stand (oddly). If you finish, you get the burger for free and a nice hat (currently). I was expecting a cheapy hat, but it was actually of decent quality. I finished in 40 minutes or so and therefore got it free. It sounds like the record is 4 minutes. Good luck beating that!
The burger was good. I started eating it by picking up a side and eating it like a burger, which was the best…until everything but the buttom bun slid back. Then I had to start conquering it piece by piece. I was able to cut the last quarter or so out nicely and finish it hand-held. Get mayo if you can like I did. It is rich and creamy and helps with the flavor fatigue in the last portion.
If I were to change anything, it’d be the toppings proportion. There should be less toppings and more burger. The bun was a bit big, too, but really cool! That said, the way they have it makes it easier.
My family also had… Chicken Tenders and Fries (from children’s menu)- $8?: The tenders were as expected. The fries were crumble cut. Ultimate Nachos - $13: Not ultimate. Ordered with pork, but it was a small serving of pork. Lots of chips, but scamp on the toppings. Carolina Macaroni and Cheese - $14.49: Delicious. The pulled pork, bacon, and BBQ were a great combo. The beer cheese takes a bit of getting used to. The Original Macaroni and Cheese - $13: Very cheesy and good. Breakfast Potatoes - $2: Good cubed potatoes. Fresh Fruit Cup - $4: Good except the blueberries which were almost dry in texture. Hot Chocolate - $3: Rich and a decent size. Had two cups. It was so good! Soda - $2.69: Ordered three different ones and all were of good consistency. Asked for no ice and received it no ice.
They did not have gluten free options or a gluten free menu.
Service: VERY kind, quick, helpful, and absolutely amazing! Our waitress was everything we could ask for and delivered everything as ordered.
Atmosphere: Eclectic atmosphere with strong tones from the roaring 20’s, yet with hints of multiple generations thereafter. The circle table we were at was not lit (lights were broken) and very dark, but most other tables were fine. The other circle table was out of order.
Conclusion: It was overpriced compared to other restaurants, but fairly good. The proportions did not quite match what you paid. The service was amazing and the atmosphere is VERY interesting and you can explore it for hours. I would recommend this place.

Read moreI grew up on this place. Always have loved it. However, tonight, not so much. My family and I have not been here in years after they shut down from Covid. Tonight was the first night in a long time and lots of changes. No more free kids meals with purchase of entrée- ok no big deal. The salad bar was back- super excited. The prices and quantity of food? Not so excited.
First we waited 10 minutes to even be recognized and seated in a room that couldn’t be more than half full. When we go to order I’m told an unlimited salad bar is $14.99, okay decent but we wanted food too. I wanted a burger and a salad bar. Then was told if you don’t pick from their very limited option list of “dinners” it’s you pay your meal price plus the $14.99 for the salad bar. Otherwise from the dinners list it’s $5.99 extra. From their few options I really did not want or care for any of them but I was not about to pay an extra $15 just for a couple trips to the salad bar. so I opted for chicken tenders. The food took a really long time to arrive, our waitress did not attend to us once in that time. Our drinks were empty for at least 30 minutes. Maybe 8 tables total in the dining room.
Food finally comes out and it looks like a frozen dinner meal. 3 small chicken tenders, one of which was burnt and inedible, maybe a handful of fries, and a huge bowl of $1 steamable vegetables for $16. On top of that my 4 kids got waters with their kids meals and we were charged almost $2 PER those kids waters. Very disappointed in the overall experience especially after being thrilled about the bar being back. Definitely will not be back. The food wasn’t terrible but not almost $100 good. I would much rather go somewhere else...
Read moreWe haven't eaten here in a while due to Covid. Currently they don't open until 12 noon. One customer was loudly complaining about the hours. The old fashioned salad bar is also gone due to Covid. The manager tried to explain they were short staffed but he wasn't hearing it. From our table I could see that the cook wasn't wearing a face mask. There was also a stock person back there without a mask. I mentioned this to the manager when we left and he said it was ok because the cook didn't come within 6 feet of anyone. I told him maybe not but he was breathing all over my food. Our waitress was a cantankerous older woman with a matter of fact attitude. My daughter got spaghetti and it came with soup or salad and she didn't want either so I asked the waitress if my husband could take it and she replied "I don't care what you do!" She never came back to check on us and we had to ask someone else for drink refills. There were 5 of us and we stopped her when she was walking by and asked for some containers and she brought 2! Again I had to get more from someone else. The food was good as always. The pot pie was as good as ever! It came super hot! The spaghetti was good but I tried a meatball and it was actually cold inside like it just came out of a refrigerator. I told the waitress when she brought the containers and she said "oh it was cold?" and walked away. They asked about our meal at the register and I did tell the manager everything that happened. He gave me the low staff Covid speech and apologized. They also took some money off our bill so that was nice. Hopefully they will get their act together again. It would he a shame to have them...
