I was in the front row for Disney on ICe and will probably post more pics later. But, I wanted to start off saying how much I enjoyed the show. It was done in multiple smaller acts. Opening with a retelling of Toy Story 3, then shifting to the Little Mermaid. We had an intermission, then when we returned there was a little skit down with cars from Pixar's Cars. This was probably the weakest segment of the entire show. We then were treating to a retelling of Frozen. My only hang up with the entire show was that I would have enjoyed if this production had more diversity to it. of all the primary characters, and I am talking about 12 different characters, they were all white. We did not have Pocahontas, Moana, Mulan, Jasmine, Tiana or even anyone of any color or diversity from the movies. One could argue that Sebastian, from the Little Mermaid, was black since he is voiced by Samuel E. Wright, an African America. But, seeing the it was full costume and we only hear the voice of Sebastian, that is a stretch. No one that was not in full costume that covered their features were non-white. I found that kind of disappointing.
A side note, I was sitting next to a family that had brought their daughter. Everyone seemed very happy. When the husband went to the bathroom, the mother motioned over one of the salespeople that were selling light up wands. She told her daughter to pick out a wand. Which these charming young lady did. The mother paid for the wand. The little girl was happy with her new light up wand. All was good. When the husband returned. A conversation ensued about the cost of the wand. It was $30. The husband called the salesperson back over and demanded a refund stating that the salesperson had not told his wife the price. Yes, the husband took the wand from his daughter and gave it back. Yes, the wand was $30. Who cares? They had given to the daughter which was happy with it.
Instead of just chalking it up to a loss, and thinking that their daughter was happy with the wand. The husband bragged to his friends that sat on the opposite side of me of how he got back his money. Wow. Real class. This incident was probably the lowest part of my night experiencing a person gleeful that he got back his money and took the wand from his child and then bragged how he got his money back.
I have included pictures of the area, the Disney souvenir stands, and of the show. I hope you...
Read moreI know they are building a new Civic Center but they still need to maintain the old one. You can see chipped paint who h looks really bad on the outside. When you get inside & look up to the 2nd floor chipped paint, wires hanging everywhere. The bathroom smelt like mole, I went to use the restroom & was greeted with the handicapped stall leaking water from behind it which was dangerous for water being on the floor. My cane slipped in the water. Not having an employee to operate the elevator lift at all times or having the elevator life setup for a disabled person to use themselves especially if there was an emergency. I got downstairs on the lift but had to wait for someone to take the life back upstairs for the next person. Once I was down I had to wait to go back up because the lift was on the upper level with no one to operate it. Water leaking from the ceiling...
Read moreThe facility is historic but pretty well kept. It would be nice to have a larger arena built for larger events and just use this conferences and Orchestra events. They had the National Ballet performance in the Mercer Room at the same time Monster Trucks were in the larger arena. Parking was at a premium. Best bet is the Park Garage across the street on Montgomery. This made restrooms pretty crowded. Also would like to see more food vendors with a little more variety. While I'm happy the Monster Trucks finally came to Savannah, I think they need a larger arena for the XMonster Truck Event. The Racers did a great job with the limited space but definitely a better show when they have the room to really show off their skills. I've seen them in a few different arenas and this was definitely...
