The Savannah History Museum is a beautiful and informative stop for anyone visiting this historic city. Located in the heart of Savannah, the museum offers a comprehensive look into the city’s rich history, and it’s a perfect spot for those who want to understand Savannah’s cultural and historical significance.
The staff at the museum, particularly the friendly ladies at the front desk, were incredibly welcoming and helpful. They gave great recommendations on other places to visit around the city, such as the Dragon Museum. They also informed us about the free cruise available to see the beautiful Savannah waterfront, which is an amazing way to experience the area from a different perspective.
If you’re interested in touring the city, I highly recommend taking the trolley tour. It’s very affordable, and it gives you a great overview of Savannah’s highlights, including historic sites and stunning architecture.
Overall, the Savannah History Museum is a must-see when in town. The staff is lovely, and the museum itself provides a deep dive into the fascinating history of this great city. Definitely add it to...
Read moreThis is an extremely interesting and important museum in the Savannah community!! There are plenty of exhibits about Savannah, GA during the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the American Civil War, and the 2 world wars. There is even an exhibit on the women who shaped Savannah and there is a big empty room in the museum which will include an exhibition on the Jazz/ music scene in Savannah!! Shortly after you get your tickets at the museum’s entrance, you’ll see a moderately-sized exhibition on Casimir Pulaski, a Polish general who is known as “the father of American Cavalry.” If you really want to know what makes Savannah the beautiful and historic city that it is, then this is the ideal place to learn all of that! I recommend that you spend 2-e hours at this museum! However, if this is a place that really interests you, then spend more than 6 hours at this place! When you visit Savannah, this should be at the top of your list!! You cannot visit Savannah, and not check out this awesome museum! If you do not go to this museum, or the city that it’s named for, then you’re making a...
Read moreVery nice local history museum with a bit of something for everyone. The kids did notice that the exhibits seem to be in an illogical order (not really chronological, not really arranged by subject; there really wasn't any coherent sequence that we could discern). It was also very confusing trying to figure out if we were supposed to pay for admission, but my persistence paid off and I was eventually able to get someone to tell me that, yes, there was an admission charge (which apparently many other people didn't figure out, who simply walked in without bothering to inquire), and to collect our payment. It felt almost like an honor system, which leaves me feeling somewhat ambivalent about the place. Maybe just switch to a donation jar by the door? Or put up a sign saying "Please pay required admission in the gift shop"? Otherwise, it was a very nice experience with lots of impressive exhibits, and we learned quite a bit about the local history of Savannah...
