I was not planning on leaving a review initially - but people have to know.
Anita’s is one of the bigger disappointments in my Savannah food experience. I’ve been recommended here by many people and wanted to finally try it. Most places online shows their menu prices being $9ish, but only when ringing up your food do you discover that it’s upwards of $16. With just chips somehow my ‘deli’ sandwich was $19 including tip. Inflation is one thing, but come on y’all, at least put it on the board. Our initial cashier was very nice.
After ordering we sat in a stuffy, stale room. The decor could use some work but, for the most part it was fine. Hardly any AC was the killer. This wouldn’t have been a big problem except our two ‘deli’ sandwiches took about 20 minutes to come out.
The first bag of chips I had I returned to the basket before opening because I noticed they were past their best by date. It was all the Habanero ones btw.
We FINALLY get our food and bring it home. I open my sandwich take a bit. Besides the taste being mediocre I also got a mouthful of plastic from the cheese. Pictured below.
I was obviously disgusted so I brought it back to get a refund. They kindly offered to remake it, but I just wanted my money back to go get food somewhere else. That answer did not seem to please the other person at the register, different from the very nice woman earlier. She begrudgingly seemed to give me a partial refund while giving me attitude about not refunding chips. And conveniently not refunding tip. I work in customer service, if someone doesn’t like my order I refund the whole thing not just the item specifically and apologize profusely. That may just be me, but the attitude was the final straw.
Like I said, I was not planning on leaving a review, but when you waste my time, my money, and my patience...
Read moreDisappointed after reading the positive reviews and wished I read the lowest rated reviews before visiting.
Let me start by saying this establishment does have an A rating from DPH, last inspected Nov, 2023. However, I do still have some health concerns after our visit.
While waiting for our sandwiches, I noticed one of employees, while on a small break, cough into their hand, go back around the counter to the food prep area, touch his face, and then proceed to make food without washing hands. We brought this up and asked for a refund because we no longer wanted to eat there. The other employee seemed appalled that we would call them out and stated they were the one to make the sandwich and that they were already made so no refund. The one who coughed in their hands proceeded to state they used hand sanitizer so it was fine. I looked at DPH rules and regulations, you are required to wash hands after something like coughing in your hands.
Despite someone else making the sandwiches, we did not eat them and did not receive a refund for the sandwiches. Lastly, we got the Mac salad and ate it while waiting for the sandwiches, which tasted good initially but we noticed it was watery. Not sure how long it was in the fridge, there was no date on the container.
Overall, disappointed with their health practices and how it was handled when we brought up...
Read moreThe customer service is amazing, as along is the food. The first time I went I got a bagel with cream cheese, a classic, and they did not disappoint. Then I got the Sandwich of the Week which was provolone, turkey, bacon, tomatoes, on sourdough. It was all warm, the sandwich held perfectly but when I did bite into it, it melted into my mouth. It was one of the best sandwiches I've had. The place itself was dingy, which definitely added a little "mom and pop" vibe to it, which I liked. The only thing I noticed was that it was a little bit dirty, but that didn't take away from the experience at all. And the people that run it are very friendly and super inviting whenever you come in, whether they know you are not. 10/10 place, I am definitely...
