Had 630 reservations and arrived early. Girl who was at the counter was not greeting or acknowledging any one coming in, finally a male came up and asked if we were helped yet and said no we were waiting on the rest of the party... he said okay for 630 and it will be about 630 before you can be seated. No issues with that. He came and updated us saying the table is being cleaned now so it should be a few minutes. Few minutes passed and we were seated...we did end up getting seated right about 6:15pm. . . looking around the restaurant was not very busy and there were 2 other tables that could of accommodated us without issue... so we get seated decide on what we wanted to eat and still no waitress, waitress comes to the table and asks us if we wanted any drinks or were ready to order... we ordered drinks and dinner and waited for about 20 minutes for drinks, understandable to a certain point due to some alcoholic drinks ordered. Waitress delivered the drinks and told us they were on the house since there was a wait for them getting to us which was nice. We were waiting on 3 appetizers (all cheese curds) we waited some more. There was some cheese on the table with no bread or crackers so we had to ask for those. They gave us plenty of crackers and more cheese. Roughly an hour in we finally got our appetizers. We ended up getting our soups or coleslaw Roughly 20-30 minutes later and still no entrée. The broccoli soup was very salty and when brought to the attention of our waitress her response was "yeah we know, we have had mutiple complaints tonight" (multiple complaints but continued to serve it - that had be wow'd) Someone from our party got up and went looking for the one male manager who kept us updated on our table in the beginning. Couldn't find him so another waitress was available so she went looking for him. She couldn't find him at that moment either so she went in back to check on the food for us... a few minutes later she did start to come back with some of the food and serve us at this point the manager was found and he came to our table and we told him the wait was ridiculous and having our waitress waiting on too many tables was horrible. She couldn't keep up. He admitted to having her on too many tables and it was his fault. We overheard several other tables complaining about service and he was trying to take care of them as well and now had to take care of our issues as well. He seemed pretty annoyed and gave our table some attitude at the end of the night. Was beyond aggravated with a lot of the experience so just said take the food and it was then boxed up for us. The manager did take care of a lot of the bill but to give some attitude towards the end was not right. If it would of been explained in the beginning that they were short staffed or whatever the reasoning was we would of been a lot of more understanding and patient but to have slow service and get a slight attitude is not good. This restaurant has been around a long time so we really wanted to try it, drove just about an hour to try it and unfortunately it was very disappointing as far as service was. Probably will not be back due to the distance traveled and if it was anything like tonight again would be horrible. Lots of other options around that we have had great...
Read moreMy family and I (a party of 15) came here for dinner after recently losing a loved one. We aren’t from the area — some traveled over 3 hours to be here, some from New York, California, and Delaware even. That loved one was the patriarch of our family and had always loved this restaurant. As kids, we came here often because it was her favorite place. We expected a warm, memorable experience — instead, we were met with the exact opposite. A little context: • I have over 15 years of experience in food and customer service. • I’ve worked in multiple 5-star restaurants and high-end establishments. • I currently work for a major food retailer near you 😉 So I understand the ups and downs that come with serving and bartending. I truly do. That said, my family came in with high spirits and positive energy. We’re the type of laid-back, kind guests any server would appreciate. Yet we were treated terribly from start to finish. Our server’s attitude was shockingly unprofessional. She leaned across the table over each of us to serve food and drinks, split alcoholic beverages before they were even placed on the table, and consistently overfilled our water glasses — soaking the tablecloth by the end of the meal. When we asked simple, polite questions like “What would you recommend?” she responded with snappiness and excuses. Even during the ordering process, she seemed frustrated and impatient. The drinks (aside from the lemon basil martinis) were poorly made, and the sides didn’t arrive with the entrees. For a restaurant charging $20–$30 per entrée, the service should reflect that value — and it absolutely did not. To be clear: this was not a busy night. For a Thursday, the restaurant seemed quiet. There was no reason this server should have been so overwhelmed or rude. Her demeanor made it clear she was not equipped to handle a large party, nor did she seem interested in trying. I've never experienced service like this — it felt hostile. From your website, you claim: “No matter the occasion, we want you to always feel at home at our restaurant right here in Northwest Indiana.” We did not feel at home — not at all. “Teibel's Family Restaurant has brought neighbors and travelers alike in for a great meal and even better service since our doors opened more than 80 years ago.” That was not our experience. The service was a complete letdown. “Teibel's Family Restaurant is the place where community gathers in Northwest Indiana. Our family restaurant welcomes diners of all ages, and we promise no one will go home hungry.” I only ordered an appetizer. After being interrupted, talked over, and treated so rudely, I didn’t feel comfortable ordering more. I did go home hungry — because who wants to eat while feeling scolded? Thank you for turning what was supposed to be a special, comforting night before a funeral into an upsetting memory. 0/10 — I do not...
Read moreWalking in the main entrance, you are greeted with some nice Chriatmas decorations. There is a coat check, which is a nice touch, not often found at local restaurants. There was a kid working it who seemed to be about ten years old. Strange, but whatever.
We sat and a server soon was taking drink orders. Throughout the meal, she was quick with refills when appropriate. She was friendly and made no mistakes.
We ordered a shrimp cocktail appetizer, to share between the two seafood eaters in our party. The shrimp was large, and tasted fresh and delicious. After the shrimp, we had high hopes for the rest of the meal.
Next came rolls, which I had seen for sale in Stracks, so I figured they just be good. Not so much. They were largely tasteless, so I added cheese, which came with the rolls. Is that cheese wiz? Seriously. It tasted exactly like the cheese you get in your lunch box as a kid, in the packet that comes with the crackers and cheese in one handy pack. We legitimately wondered if it was cheez wiz from a can, made to look fancy.
The menu was pretty limited. As we understand it, it's a holiday menu, limited to just a few items.
Two of us ordered the perch. It was the worst perch either of us had ever had. It was hot, but not at all flaky, and even less delicious. Big mistake ordering the perch. It was so bad we each ate two pieces and left the rest.
The two people who had the fried chicken reported it was no better than what you get at KFC, but at a very inflated price.
While we were eating, some teenagers sat at the table next to us. They were evidently friends of some of the wait staff, as while they were there, the staff was joking around with them and laughing about someone they knew being a mother **cker. Obviously loud enough for customers to hear. Very unprofessional.
All in all, Tiebels is a place none of us have any desire to go back to. A fairly high price for an extremely low quality meal.
I was curious about the limited menu. Being this was my first time visiting Tiebels, I've never eaten anything there other than what I had this visit. I don't understand why, if you are limiting the menu choices, why you would limit it to such poor quality items.
The food didn't make anyone sick, and the Christmas decor was pleasant, saving this from being a...
