I feel like I just found Scottsdale's "best-kept secret," but it won't be for long, so I can't wait to introduce friends (and all who come to visit us) to this unique spot that has absolutely exquisite Michelin-Star quality food.
The restaurant, one level above Scottsdale Airport's runway and the rows of parked private jets, is surrounded on 3 sides with complete glass walls as well as balcony seating for clear views of the mountains, planes taking off and landing, and the beautiful sunsets. there are gas heaters outside for the cooler season, as well as a beautiful fire pit with blue fire glass, surrounded by comfortable wide cushioned chairs (See my photo.)
The inside decor is modern and clever with an open view of the kitchen (See photo.) & of the action outside, bar seating, a long high-top table for groups, and of course, regular tables. I'm not sure if they have the wobbly wood-top tables fixed yet (which have a cool design), but we changed tables and sat at one of their trendy concrete tables.
Their happy hour menu has incredibly low priced options like two tenderloin sliders with fries for $6. etc., well cocktails for $5., beers for $3. & 4. and wine for $5.00, and they mix the cocktails strong! Check out the photo of the gorgeous glass in which the Cosmopolitan was served. (Even their water glasses are unique.)
Here's the part that impressed me the most. We arrived during Happy Hour on a Sunday but wanted to order off of the regular menu. The cheerful waitress said, "Let me check with the chefs to see if they'll do that." Sure enough, they didn't mind at all, and our food was spectacular with beautiful presentation. (Check out the photos.)
We shared the Tuna Tower appetizer (which is $16. and definitely enough for two people). It was spectacular. The tuna tower is formed in a ring mold with the freshest tuna tartare topped with sesame seeds, on a layer of diced avocados resting on a layer of field green drizzled with wasabi-honey sauce, served with 6 large homemade puffy-crisp wonton squares, and the plate is garnished with more drizzles of the wasabi-honey sauce. The tuna tartare was so fresh that I could actually taste the subtle avocados and sesame seeds more than the generous layer of the tuna. Now that's fresh! And the flavors weren't the only thing that was perfectly balanced. When the appetizer first arrived, I thought, "Oh, I'm going to need way more chips," but the 6 were just the correct proportion to hold each bite. I will definitely return to make a lunch out of this for myself.
For our entrées, we both chose the homemade Tagliatelli with wild mushrooms in a somewhat spicy cream sauce topped with diced tomatoes, avocados, and soft fresh crumbles of cheese (Queso Fresco). It was perfectly seasoned, al denté, and creamy. The combination of flavors blended into one big bowl of heaven. (Check out the large portion which is only $16. Judging from what we had and the gorgeous food around us, I would bet that everything at Volanti is amazing!
I am absolutely going to take another friend there very soon for another dose of that...
Read moreThere was no other way to contact the establishment directly in and privately in writing so unfortunately, I have to post this here to share my feedback with them. I am offering 2 stars because the staff demeanor was kind despite our very disappointing experience.
I attended a lunch event here years ago, enjoyed it and was invited to meet friends during Super Bowl and Waste Management Open weekend. My significant other and I were very much looking forward to returning. Our party of 4 did not make reservations but intended to arrive early in the evening to try and avoid the busier time period. The two of us dressed up and arrived shortly before 5pm on Saturday, ahead of the rest of our party, as we had more limited time. We were greeted by very pleasant staff who advised that there would be a 45 minute to one hour wait. Not unexpected. We asked about waiting in the bar until a table was ready and we were told that there was no availability anywhere at that time. Again, this was not unheard of during this particular weekend and we were unfortunately unable to stay and wait.
The rest of our group did arrive, 10 minutes later. They reached out and shared a lovely picture of their cocktails from the bar area, stating that they were fortunate enough that a party of 2 at the end of the bar were leaving and offered the two of them their seats. This meant that our 2 friends were in the bar prior to that area becoming available to them. My questions is why we were told that there was nowhere for us to be inside when 2 others who arrived just minutes after us were apparently allowed in?
Possibly a misunderstanding, it happens. But given the totality of our experience, it was disappointing, to say the least. Again, not Volanti's fault that we dressed up and arrived on a high-demand weekend without a reservation. But perhaps I can gain some guidance for how I should have handled the interaction up front so that we might have been able to enjoy some facet of the experience that we...
Read moreIf your private jet has just landed at the Scottsdale Airport, this second floor restaurant with a commanding view of the runways is a great place for lunch. Even if you — like me — don’t have a jet, you will really enjoy lunch here at this casual, light, and airy (and breezy if the folding windows are retracted) bistro, while watching jets take off and land and fantasizing about who could be on them. Sit on the inside side of the bar looking through the folding windows toward the runway, or sit on the outside side of the bar with your back to the jets. There’s also a long line of tables along the railing, looking down at the tarmac and the lines of idle aircraft. We sat at an outside table in the shade. It was a beautiful day but a little warm, so the misters were refreshing. The menu offers a selection of creative bites and well-executed standards. On this visit, my BLTA was excellent as always (toasted but soft bread and a Goldilocks amount of crispy, thick-cut bacon (the BLT is the world’s most perfect sandwich as long as the B, the L, and the T are in perfect equilibrium)). My friend loved his Reuben. But the highlight of the meal was the generous serving of house-made potato chips accompanying my sandwich. If you follow my reviews you know I will go to any restaurant that serves house-made potato chips. These chips were thin and crispy and golden, just as they should be. They rank among the best I’ve found in Scottsdale and Phoenix. If you HAVE just arrived on your jet, you probably just flew in for the $100 Burger, which is accompanied by champagne (Veuve), truffle fries, caviar, and the house-made potato chips. Service is excellent. YouTube’s...
