If you want to get robbed by a restaurant and have someone play in your face about it, come to Americana! To preface: my friends and I (5 total patrons) went here on a casual Sunday for brunch. We understand that sometimes there are off days/services in the restaurant business, and some bad meals you just have to chalk up to the game. After bad drinks, okay-ish food (aside from the hair in one person’s potatoes) and a waiter having an extremely unnecessary attitude because I deigned to ask for sugar with my coffee, we were ready to pay our bill, brush it off, and laugh about the bad service later. Until this place decided to literally take money they were not owed, and play dumb the entire time. We asked for separate checks at the end of the meal, four checks total, and were brought one check with a $33 gratuity written (handwritten!) in. Weird that it’s written in, but an auto-grat is nothing new. We asked again for checks to be broken up. At first, she says that this cannot be done, but we point to the bottom of the receipt where it says “Each additional card will be charged 50 cents.” Weird thing to include if the request was actually impossible. The woman had SUCH an attitude about a plotting our checks, even though other tables had separate checks brought to them, but nevertheless ended up bringing the checks after another 20 minute (no exaggeration) wait. Now, we three of us have $8.40 tips handwritten into our bills, and our couple friends paying together had $16.80 written on theirs, regardless of how much we ordered. For me personally, this was $8.40 on a $26 tab. The person next to me also had $8.40 on a $40 tab. What’s the math here? (For me, it turned out to be over a 30% tip.) So, our auto-grat went from $33 on the first check to $42? How does that work? We then asked for just the bill to be printed, no tips written in on our behalf, so we can include a tip amount ourselves. To this, the woman scolds us for attempting to avoid tipping at all (literally not what we’re doing), and that it’s policy for them to include a tip on tables five and more. And this point we’re so annoyed at their attitudes toward us for simply asking for our correct bills that we check the menu for their policy. Lo and behold, their policy is in fact, a ~20%~ auto-grat on a party of ~six~ or more, which that write in, and this party size, were not. We mentioned this, essentially calling them out for lying, and the woman went, “I guess you’re right,” scratched out her handiwork as shown in the picture, and said we’d be billed what’s printed on the receipt. Cool, fine, awesome. This is what we asked for from the beginning; after this 40 minute (!) back and forth, we’re ready to just sign and go. But dear reader, this was instead another lie. After giving our cards and having them ran, the final receipts come back with a 25% tip included anyway, and all our cards were ran in a matter where a “signature was not required.” Basically, not allowing us to refute what they just did. Imagine paying extra for food you couldn’t eat because someone’s whole scalp was cooked into it? This place is a joke, the staff is a joke, and I’m genuinely surprised anyone is able to say otherwise

A great lowkey breakfast spot in Cap Hill! Came here on a Sunday morning and was instantly greeted and seated. The waitress and other staff were kind and attentive throughout the meal, checking in and bringing over almond milk when requested. Now let’s talk about the meal itself. My eyes were instantly drawn to the maple glazed pork belly and mozzarella corn pancakes and it was the best breakfast decision I’ve made in 2023. The pork belly was cooked perfectly, easily breaking up and practically melting in my mouth with maple-y goodness. The pancakes were also excellent. Never had anything like them before and the texture was enticing. The eggs with scallions were simple yet delicious. Such a unique and tasty way to start the day. Along with this option, the menu has more classic breakfast items. A great variety of options at reasonable prices. Lastly, I’ll talk about the vibe. Earlier I mentioned lowkey, and I stand by that. It’s not too fancy and shiny like some modern spots. The restaurant was filled with talking, in the distance the sound of plates clinking, the smell of your food activating the salivary glands. Couldn’t ask for more and I will definitely return!

Put your name on the list if it’s full! Came in at 1:15PM Easter Sunday and waited 35 minutes for a table for 2. They will not seat guests with parties of +8. Brunch is from 9-3, they have daily specials and a different pancake-of-the-day. Bar tender made my old fashioned with a real cube of sugar and the most beautifully spiraled piece of orange. We got the pancakes - orange with orange blossom honey - a side of scrambled eggs, The Seattle Slam (2 eggs 2 sausage/bacon pieces and 2 pancake) - swap those pancakes for French Toast, $3. Real maple syrup here - thank you!! Everything thing here is top notch. Play around with the sauces on the table. Black is vinegary and super spicy, like wasabi hot - just for a second. Green is mild salsa. Red is ketchup. Pink is jam. I like to mix the green and black together. Homey, cozy feels. All the people who work here have wonderful energies. You can split checks here. Our total was $63. It would have been around $30 with no drinks but what’s the fun in that?

We decided to try out Americana on a Sunday morning around 11:00am. My husband, 2 year old and I put our names down with the hostess who said it would be a 20-40 min wait which we agreed to no problem.

The kicker here, is that the hostess with the blue hair said we were waiting for a low top table to clear. A low top table opened about 45 minutes later and I asked her if that was ours. she said no and said she was putting us at a high top table (with a highchair). I was furious because as we're waiting she put several people that came after us at the high top two person tables which was exactly what she said she was putting us at. she actually gave the low table to a group of 4 (we were 3) and I know this because it was my hair stylist who was at the table. She also arrived at least 15 min after we did.

She was horribly rude, never said sorry and same with another waiter there who said "I know you have a problem". here is my problem. you treated us horribly because we have a 2 year old. I am also a women of color, while I am not going to accuse them of being racist, I did notice that every single person who was seated before us didn't have kids and was white. Biases exist and you guys clearly have them whether its because I am brown or if its because I have a kid I am not sure but its humiliating and so sad that this happened in our neighborhood.

As my husband walked our two year back home to eat something, I decided to go back. the blue haired lady didn't even apologize, I was in her way so she said "excuse me" twice in the most rude tone. She wouldn't even look at me. Was it because I was brown? Was it because I questioned how she was seating people and her biases? I spoke to the manager, who I will say was quite apologetic and nice but the two that were so rude to me never even bothered in apologize.

I walked out of their restaurant in tears and so frustrated that I still have to deal with this! in 2019. in...

I had high hopes for this place considering the reviews. DO NOT COME FOR DINNER. I don't know if I came at a bad time of day or a bad day in general but this place had close to the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Place was practically empty around 7pm or so. The one obvious waiter was poorly dressed, didn't even see me until what appeared to be his boss telling him I was there. I was served popcorn and water. The menu itself was limited, mostly filled with drinks, clearly an overt attempt at making money as I know that's where most places make a profit. I ordered the sauteed gnocchi with arugula and cranberry sauce. I would give this place another star if if wasn't for how sick I felt an hour later. The service here was abysmal: the other waiter, who I thought was a customer as he was sitting down just chatting up with his boss I guess, didn't even have change when I paid with cash and even looked in his pockets to see if he could find some before asking if he could go across the way to get change. On top of that, a lady coming in to get food for one of the food to go apps had to practically yell to even get his attention. At least he had the curtesy to walk her to her car. Neither this waiter or the other one seemed remotely professional, with only their friendly demeanor keeping me from leaving out right. I work in customer service so i can understand that if it is slow, taking a breather is nice here and there but this was...
