I came because the review average was really high—4.9–but I was let down by the food. To be fair, it had cooled significantly by the time I dug in, but I found the Gyro Saj Shawarma to be ‘just OK’ (comparing with other Seattle Mediterranean cuisine). Falafel balls were very small for the price. Baba Ghannouj price went up significantly from the price I saw online (it was $7.50 and only came with a single pita). I feel like the pita was homemade, but a bit tough—might be better if hotter. The baklava were the most disappointing—soggy, no crunch at all, and definitely not worth $3.99 per order. Also, overall, the veggies (pretty much just lettuce inside and one very small tomato slice) didn’t seem very fresh.
I think the reason for the unusually high review average here is that the place is DIRECTLY next to a hospital… so of course it definitely beats hospital food… just a theory.
Service and atmosphere were fine but I can’t really judge them since I was in and out. I really hate having the tip option put toward me with the cashier looking at it. It ends up feeling more like a tax than a tip… and no quick 1 or 2 dollar options despite being a take your order out type place (not a sit down restaurant) and I regret having hit the 15% ($6) on my $40...
Read moregot the Gyro Saj Shawarma & Greek Fries
this contained two main things - the sandwich and the greek fries
first, i thought the sandwich was pretty good while not using pita bread, which is typical for a gyro and usually what i prefer, this place used more of a tortilla for the breading instead
i did think this bread was toasted very well and the overall outside of the wrap was good as far as the inside, i very much liked the way the ingredients were packed into the wrap while it may not look super big, each half of the sandwich was packed really tightly with a lot of different ingredients - which made it really filling this also let the flavors really combine since they were mixed up in close proximity inside the sandwich
the sandwich also scores high in portion size - it really had a lot of meat and overall ingredients the meat inside the sandwich was good - not great
where this disappointed me a bit was in the greek fries - there wasn't enough white sauce the cheese was decent - but the lack of sauce made the fries not really stick to the cheese that much a lot of fries were just dry so these were still decent, but i've certainly had a lot better i did like the crisp on these
Sandwich: 8.5/10 Greek Fries:...
Read moreThe good and the bad…. It is what it is. Service was friendly and happy to see us. You get allot of food for the price but most of ours went in the garbage. Having grown up on food like this it didn't resemble much of what I ate growing up Food was not even close to what was pictured. Meat was dry and overly processed and woody. Salad was not Greek just had some Greek cheese on it. Tomatoes were not ripe, onions were not very good but nicely sliced. Hummus had a couple of Greek olives in it but didn't seem to have any tahini in it at all. Was a very flavorless paste. Rice had way to much all spice or maybe to much cinnamon in the allspice. Over all food seemed to drop out of a package and get warmed up. Place appeared clean but yet smelled strange. Not dirty and not of the food unless that was burnt allspice. Price probably average for the quality of the food. Service for the price was exceptional. They answered allot of questions and were really great people...
