When I see masala chai on a menu I think it's going to be better than just a regular chai. A masala chai is an Indian tea beverage made with black tea, milk and a mix of aromatic herbs and spices. If I see chai I think its okay, but when I see masala chai on a menu I think it'll get a little more attention.
Unfortunately Milstead just throws a tea bag into tea and milk and calls it a day. Disappointing as I could easily do this myself but I see it on the menu and feel compelled to try it anyway. Tea, like coffee requires special brewing times and instruction. Left too long and it's ruined, too many spices and it's just a lot, not enough flavor and it's just watery tea with milk.
My husband ordered an iced vanilla latte. Basic and yet he was in love. The vanilla flavor was richer and creamier than his usual stops. He'd love to come get it again and if we do I will definitely try a mocha made with Theo's chocolate! If you haven't seen it around Seattle, it's a specialty chocolate shop and they have a...
Read moreWhen in your head you imagine a hipster coffee shop. This is it. Limited section of pastries, check. Of the 4 pastries and snack options they have like 3 are gluten free, check. Employees that give of the vibe of being stuck up, check. A hatred for flavored coffee (they only have one flavor and it is made in house) check. Not enough places to sit but we don't care, check.
So with all of this you wonder why in the world I am giving this place five stars (and I never give out five star ratings), I can sum it up by saying this. "Their coffee is that good". I mean I live in Seattle, home of some of the best coffee shops you will ever find. People here take their coffee seriously. And even with that I must say that this is hands down thr best cappuccino I have ever had. Not even close they win. Even with all of the negatives that I listed (did I mention the parking sucks), they still get 5 stars. I can't believe it. I don't want to like the place but they have officially...
Read moreBest coffee shop in Seattle and one of the best in the U.S. (named one of the Eater National Coffee 38). People come to this shop in Fremont because they’ve heard how amazing the coffee is and they keep coming back because of the service. When it’s busy – and it’s usually packed – you’ll see the owner, Andrew Milstead, behind the bar pouring latte art and greeting customers. I don’t know how they do it, but the half dozen or so baristas always keep the line moving. The baristas are passionate about coffee, know a ton, and are happy to answer your questions. You go here for coffee and a pastry: they don’t offer sandwiches or anything substantial to eat. You should also know they don’t serve decaf coffee. If you are visiting Seattle, it’s a convenient spot to grab coffee, walk the Burke-Gilman trail, and stop by the Fremont troll. Fremont is known as the “center of the universe,” and this shop is the center of the coffee...
