After scanning the reviews, I was really looking forward to this place, a casual German restaurant with great classic German comfort food. I lived 12 years in Europe and was looking forward to an escape back to memories of trips up the Rhine.
The atmosphere is a good gasthaus/brathaus experience for Seattle, though the menu is missing lots of traditional gasthaus/brathaus-type food (keine Schweinshaxe!). It may be lacking in proper German food, but you can get cheesesteak sandwiches, gumbo, beef/chicken/veggie burgers, and southern fried chicken wings. sigh
The German beer selection is the widest I can remember seeing outside of Germany, isolating just the German beer would be an easy 5 stars.
I had the German Bratwurst Plate. The sauerkraut was lacking that fresh, vinegar tasting bite that cuts through the fat, and was lacking the crisp contrasting texture against soft bratwurst and warm potato salad. I struggled to find something redeeming about the bratwurst... I can only describe it as ground pork (maybe a bit of beef) in sausage casing. The taste of the potato salad was on par with the cheaper potato salad in plastic containers you get at grocery stores near the deli counter. The pretzel was actually quite good, despite they most certainly have to be factory produced and likely from frozen.
And please, oh please, my god please, I beg you; lose the free-range waiting staff. I can't imagine anything less productive and profitable to your bottom-line than staff not assigned to designated sections or customers, and constantly having to visit every single table to see if they can serve the customer in some way. As a customer, you generally either get huge gaps in service, or non-stop interruptions from 2-3 staff asking the same questions. This is covered in the lesson 'Restaurateur 101'.
This is a great place to swing by for a wide German beer selection and some pretzels. I would suggest that the owner takes a trip to the smaller cities and villages of Germany and get inspired by the simple, traditional German food of gasthaus/brathaus/biergartens and trim down the menu. Do one thing well, and...
Read moreThe food here is fantastic. That is what my two stars represent. The service is close to nonexistent despite there being waitstaff constantly walking up and down the dining area—not carrying anything, just roaming.
The last few times I’ve been here, I’ve come with my “loud” friend who knows the owner and his son and she knows how to get the waitstaff to listen to her. However, whenever I’ve come with my partner, waitstaff has been blissfully ignorant to any customers who aren’t their friends, and make absolutely zero effort to do anything. Not an assumption, it’s an observation. When we (two twenty-somethings) did need something, it was the kitchen staff who would respond and do so very nicely, although it would take quite a while to flag them down. They are clearly the backbone of this business, but they shouldn’t be so heavily relied upon. The waitstaff NEEDS to get it together and pay attention to customers instead of intentionally ignoring them. Seriously, they will look at our table, and us, multiple times and walk away when glasses are empty or when we try to flag them down. So incredibly rude.
All of the ordering being online makes dining here such a hassle on top of the bad service; it’s like the customer has to do all of the work and the actual staff does literally nothing. I can understand if Covid had a hand in this adjustment in ordering, however, it’s not working for dine-in and the kitchen has relayed that to me when I was last there.
Sadly, I haven’t been back recently and it’s such a shame. The food is really fantastic and it gets completely overshadowed by the horrendously nonexistent service.
As we have heard many times, people don’t come back for food, they come back for the experience. Please improve the experience and I’m sure many more people, like me, will be returning and raving. Let me know when you do because I really...
Read moreFood isn't anything to write home about, but the location (vicinity and interior) is a strong reason to visit. Had an average experience, but overall positive. Great spot to hang with others and enjoy some drinks, food, or games being played on the screens. Service is solid though and the staff are extremely friendly, welcoming, and accommodating.
Shultzy's just reopened a few weeks ago since they shut due to COVID (last Tuesday iirc) so I'm sure they're still getting everything together. The hours here aren't quite accurate as I visited past10 PM, but they do have a limited menu as the kitchen is closed. Kitchen closes at either 9 or 10 PM. Before closing, they still serve fries, chicken tenders, and fried chicken for food options. Got to stop by after the reopening and will definitely look to visit earlier in the day for the rest of the menu, so expecting to adjust rating especially after everyone gets back into the swing of things.
You can scan their QR code located at each table to order online. If you're with others, by scanning the same QR code, you can all add to the online order and then pay online too which is convenient. I've seen this at a few places recently, but it's not totally adopted yet so it was awesome to see that Shultzy's has offered this as an option.
Arnold palmer was very standard, just lemonade and iced tea. I mean that's obvious but figured I'd mention it since I happened to take a picture.
Fried chicken is juicy, these things are nicely fried and have a great crunch to them. You get one sauce for free and any more costs an extra 50 cents. You get about 9 pieces or so? They advertise it as a...
