If you ever find yourself in Seattle on a Sunday morning with a craving for something warm, buttery, and absolutely delightful, the Crumpet Shop is where you need to be. We wandered in around 8:30 a.m., and while the city was just starting to wake up, this cozy little spot was already serving up comfort with a side of charm.
The service? Imagine a welcoming committee of your best friends, only faster. The staff was friendly, quick, and made us feel right at home, like we were regulars even though it was our first time.
Now, let’s talk crumpets. We each ordered the egg and cheese crumpet, and let me tell you, these crumpets are not just food—they’re an experience. The butter melted into every nook and cranny of the crumpet, like rain soaking into Seattle’s streets, creating a texture that was soft, rich, and just about perfect.
But we didn’t stop there. One of us indulged in the maple butter crumpet, while the other went for the Vermont—imagine this: maple butter, cream cheese, and walnuts all piled onto a crumpet. It was like breakfast had decided to throw a party in our mouths, with each flavor dancing around in perfect harmony. The Vermont, in particular, was so good that it made us seriously consider starting a fan club for it.
And as if all that crumpet-y goodness wasn’t enough, they offer free refills on tea. That’s right, you can sip your way through as many cups as you like while you sit back and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
In short, the Crumpet Shop isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a place to savor, to relax, and to start your day off right. If you haven’t been, do yourself a favor and go. Your taste buds...

Long term US resident Brit here - when I found this shop I just had to go!! This is my first time at a place that serves crumpets in the US. I got the traditional butter and honey crumpet, and the Crumpet Shop blend tea with whole milk. Verdict: really delicious!! You can taste the yeast in the crumpet. Honey and butter oozing out of the holes. Just like how I remember it from a long long time ago :)
The Crumpet Shop blend tea is amazing - it's a Darjeeling second flush and Ceylon blend. The Darjeeling taste comes through but not as strong as 100% Darjeeling, due to the Ceylon. It goes very well with whole milk. The teas are brewed from loose leaf tea and put into thermos pitchers and you help yourself - which means you can add the whole milk first and then pour the tea. This is great because when you brew tea into a paper cup, the taste of the paper imparts into the tea and it simply isn't as good. You can purchase loose leaf tea here too. There is oat milk and hemp milk for those who prefer alternative milks.
In conclusion, this shop incorporates fancier crumpets than actual England (take a look at their savoury crumpet menu, that's stuff you don't usually see in the UK, at least not in the old days when I lived there), the basic honey and butter crumpets are divine, their tea is actually good. I think they did a great job of incorporating authentic English stuff into the melting pot of America, without appearing...
Read moreIt was the perfect snack after checking into our hotel, and before taking on Pike Place Market.
It's an iconic fixture on 1st Avenue. There are two entrances. The 2nd entrance is across the street and to the left from the famous Public Market sign. It was a shop that I remember seeing on my first business trip to Seattle. I bookmarked it because I didn't want to miss out on it this time around.
We both decided to get The Vermont Crumpet. It's aptly named given the ingredients: maple butter, cream cheese, and walnuts. I'm not sure that it's a "Life Changer" but it certainly qualified as a good quality snack on an early afternoon. These crumpets are freshly baked daily. I don't remember the ones in the UK being as good when we were stationed there. Sorry to say.
Everyone talks about the tea here. I think it would have been better in the morning. Our iced tea (the Crumpet Shop Blend) was a little bitter, but not a deal breaker. It's a refillable cup. It was actually quite refreshing after walking from our hotel to the Waterfront.
The service at the counter was good. We received our order rather quickly. The seating is limited. I'd place a takeout order next time. There's lots of bench seating in designated areas around the market with better views. It's a unique café. I'll give it that. Where else can you get freshly made crumpets...
