room was tiny, which i'm typically fine with if appointed right. i'd rather have character that corporate feeling). the bed was all the way up against the wall so only accessible from 1 side. fine for 1 person but would be pretty frustrating for 2. there were no night stands, so no place to put glasses, phone, phone charger, or a glass of water to be accessible while in bed. there were literally no convenient places to set stuff and plug stuff in other than on the top ledge of the headboard. not very guest friendly for the elevated concept they are trying for. light switches were sleet flat black contraptions on dark (i think) walls, sorta a low profile touch switch with no intuitive way to activate it. so entering a dark room was not very user friendly. did they actually have someone experienced with hotel design do this? cuz the whole room experience was not very functional in typical guest room function sorts of ways. there was a strange built-in fake brick fireplace looking bump out in the rooms with the sole purpose of storing the mini fridge that is filled with waaay over priced stuff. well, at least what I've read in other reviews, cuz mine didn't have a price list. seems like a huge waste of space for something of minimal use by most guests, especially if choice was made for this in lieu of bed experience being a functional one. maybe there is something structural it's hiding, and needs to be there, but still was weird. snacks weren't stocked in the desk. heat was either waaay too warm or off finding an in between didn't work. shower head off center in very narrow shower stall so basically had to stand against the glass to be centered under unadjustable showerhead. only 1 elevator which I think will be problematic when hotel is in full swing. no coffee maker in the room but was a tea kettle, though no tea. pet charge is $125 a night. whaa??? the room charge was only $85, that pet charge is NOT normal. either welcome pets, or don't. $125 a night is NOT very welcoming. some building materials will clearly not hold up to high traffic hotel use. cork floors? i give the cork 6 months before it is in disrepair. entry vestibule was small and hard to navigate with suitcases, can't nail it, but something about it was very unwelcoming. and it was like 95 degrees in it. all told, soooo many strange choices, touches and omissions that i'm kinda baffled that an experienced hotel group executed this.
all that said, i'll cut some slack being a new place and there are always adjustments that need to be made, but again, an experienced hotel group should have been able to identify things like no place to set a phone or a glass of water by the bed in a HOTEL ROOM. the goods... bed was super comfy, the windows open which is nice (though one seemed to not really be fully attached to its frame). shower stuff smelled great (who designs shower toiletries? many people that wear glasses cant see the 6 point type stating shampoo, vs conditioner, vs body wash, vs whatever was in the 4th, so kinda a crapshoot as to what you're opening) location is awesome. staff super friendly. restaurant and bar looked good but wasn't open when I checked in at midnight and left at 7am. stylish lobby and lounge. all in all I give it 3.5 star and if i go back i will definitely re-evaluate. being off season the rate was super reasonable and my experience met and exceeded my expectation for the cost i paid, but this is clearly a hotel reaching much higher and with that in mind, my option would be different as the rates go up and up and up. bottom line, they should fire their...
Read moreThe Palihotel is in a great location, and is really cute. The decor is lovely, curated, and has a typical boutique hotel feel to it.
I booked through Delta Stays, and unfortunately will never do that again. Delta Stays actually uses Expedia as an interface. So I booked, and paid for, two nights in a Deluxe King room, but the hotel did not honor that and gave us a regular king room (front desk clerk did verify that room 235 was not coded as a "Deluxe King" in their system). Had I known Delta went through Expedia, I would not have used them. With that said, I booked through the same third party site for three different hotels during this vacation, and the Palihotel Seattle was the only hotel that did not honor the type of room that was booked. I had wanted to extend our stay an extra night, and was told to book a second night through the third party, and to make sure I booked "the same type of room," so it was ironic that when we checked in, we weren't even given the type of room we booked. I'd have gladly booked directly with the hotel, if they had given me that option when I called to ask about extending my stay. The rooms are cute, but it seems like they were designed for aesthetics, not ergonomics. The adorable Smeg mini fridge is so crammed with their expensive mini-bar items, it isn't functional if you were to bring your own snacks or drinks to the room to refrigerate (unless you removed the soda and beers from the fridge... which I'm sure many guests do, so I have major doubts about the quality of the freshness of the beer/alcohol they stock if they are constantly going from room temp to refrigerated without anyone knowing about it. The bottle of champagne looked like it had been man handled by about ever guest, and put back in the fridge). The location can't be beat. When you pull up to the door, the Pike's Place Market sign is staring right back at you. The corner of 1st & Pine St puts you within walking distance to a ton of restaurants, bars, and attractions right on the water. For the price, the location is really fantastic. In the afternoon, they put up a few dishes in the common space in the lobby and fill them with fun candies, so that was an entertaining treat. The attached restaurant/bar was alright; good place to grab coffee/cocktail/mocktail, but food wasn't anything to write home about. Overall, I'd stay here again for the location, but I'd be way more careful to not pay extra for a room with a better view (definitely a first world problem- but with how expensive hotels have become, it is definitely nice to get what you're paying for if you are going to splurge on special details (this was our honeymoon trip)).
Side note! If you are sensitive to scents, be cautious- their lobby is overwhelmingly fragrant (pretty sure they even sell it as a perfume...
Read moreWe booked a room for the weekend. When we arrived in the evening, we were greeted by a staff member named "Steve[n]." He informed us that Parking was a couple of blocks away. It is $33/day; however, if we sign up via the parking app, we can save $3/day.
We soon learned that we could not sign up from our phones because they are international and not the US. Instead, we had to use the hotel tablet. After a few minutes, we still did not have any luck. Despite using different VISA cards and multiple people trying to figure it out. (Including Steve[n])
After nearly an hour of trying. I asked Steve[n] what else we could do as our 4yo was getting antsy. He advised us that there was another parking lot nearby. I asked him where and how much? He responded, "I don't know, check your phone?". It was evident that he couldn't care less about our situation.
I voiced my disappointment, and it was clear to my family that he was annoyed and frustrated with us. Since we've reached an impasse, we asked what the Cancellation policy was. That we were willing to just find another place to stay at the last minute based on his overall customer service. His reply to this was, "I've helped hundreds of customers, and this particular parking issue has never happened before." At this point, I could not help but feel that blame was placed on our family.
When he checked and found out that we had reserved our room via a 3rd party, he said that there was nothing he could do but charge us for 1 night. He said, "This is why you should never book via 3rd party".(Nevermind that a 3rd party is used due to travel points redemption)
At this point, all I wanted to do was get as far away as possible from this man. I certainly do not appreciate getting unnecessarily faulted. We've driven nearly 3 hours to be greeted by such disregard. Our family was exhausted. So my husband & I decided to check in and figure everything out the next morning. We ended up parking at the same place and paid the full price.
The following morning, We were assisted by Harry, who was absolutely wonderful. He was able to remedy our situation in an instant. He was patient, helpful, and extremely professional. In addition, we checked out w/ Otis. Who was super friendly and nice. Thank you to both who always included our 4yo in our conversations.
Such a night and day service indeed. If only either Harry or Otis had greeted us upon arrival. Our experience would have been 5-star...
