What To Order: Build Your Plate
I've visited this location a half dozen times and eaten Papouli's over 100 times in a 3 year period. Food and service is pretty consistent not just at this location but throughout the company. Wait time for food is usually pretty good being about 10 minutes on most orders when dining in after 7pm at this location.
I usually order the build a plate, with double gyro meat and the fries or pasta salad as the side. It comes with a decently sized salad as well.
The gyro meat here is really good, if your not overly hungry a gyro sandwich is a good choice as well. Or the lunch special if your dining in at lunch time.
This most recent visit I ordered the gyro meat and a steak kabob as my 2 main items. The gyro was good as usual, but when I ordered they suggested medium/rare on the steak, which is what I wanted anyhow. When I received my order the kabob was well done.. as in charred on the outside, no pink at all inside, very dry. The kabob was pretty disappointing, the rest of my meal was good.
Service here is usually pretty good, kitchen staff seems to have a sense of humor, announcing orders like your at a sports event, asking for authorization for extra sauce.. stuff like that..
I've eaten in near closing at least twice and never been rushed to leave at closing. In fact they have offered to go cups, asked if I wanted a refill before they cleaned out the machines and removed the tea.
I recommend Papouli's, its good Greek food, at a decent price, with good...
Read moreWent with a group for lunch. So remember this is a fastfood ish style restaurant, order at the counter, you come pick it up. This is not a sit down dinner type place. That changes the way I grade a place as the food quality and price is usually a little lower, speed is faster. However, they are not premaking sandwiches and burgers here so I would say 10 minutes or less is about right.
Price is on par with any local burger place or maybe a bit cheaper. Lunch ranges from $10-$15 with a drink. Ive added pictures of the menu.
Everyone in the group got a variation of a gyro (pronounced gear ohs). I selected the lunch plate that had the a gyro with standard meat (usually lamb or lamb and pork) that had tomatoes and onions on it with tzatziki sauce (yogurt and cucumbers with some dill and plenty of garlic), a salad and two falafels with a tzatziki dipping sauce.
Pita was fresh as was the meat, salad etc. Falafels were factory made. Rest of My group had fries which looked hand cut. My only complaint was the tzatziki...While very good, It seemed purchased and not made.
Restaurant was clean, someone was cleaning tables as others finished, people were friendly. Some food did take a while and the order sequence seemed to be off a bit. I noticed if you wanted a chicken gyros it took a bit longer but they may have been cooking to order.
I would return, but if I was going out for dinner on a date night I would choose another place. For lunch or in a rush this...
Read moreI’ve never been treated with such rudeness and condescension at a restaurant as I was at Papouillo’s in Selma, TX.
I drove 30 minutes because I had enjoyed my first visit, but this time was completely different. When I called to place my order, the man who answered was immediately impatient and dismissive. I asked a couple of simple questions about the Gyro plate (which I thought was called the Roman) and whether there was a plate with both a salad and a pasta salad. Instead of listening, he cut me off several times and finally snapped at me in an aggressive tone: “Do you want the Roman, YES or NO?” Shockingly disrespectful for a customer service interaction.
When I arrived, I learned the same man was also the so-called “manager.” I explained how unprofessional he had been, and his response was very rude and dismissive. He proceeded to tell me, “I already said I’m sorry. I’m not gonna suck up to you.” When I asked for someone higher up, he told me to “call the other number, my name is on the receipt,” slammed it down on the counter, and stepped back as if to posture and show how “tough” he was. The receipt said “Randy,” though I don’t know if that’s his real name.
The entire exchange was condescending, rude, and unprofessional from start to finish. The reason I will not go back to this location is because of this man. He absolutely does not deserve to be a manager. Anybody else with some good professionalism should be in that...
