In all honesty, the food is amazing. By far greatest Mexican food I have ever had. Also, everything is at an extremely cheap price which makes it all the better.
Unfortunately, the service is horrendous.
The servers are not polite, use improper serving etiquette, and do not specify important details when taking orders.
For example, if the restaurant runs out of a certain meat, you will not find out until you order it. The servers should indicate when the restaurant is out of certain meats before taking your order.
Another example is that the servers do not indicate that the restaurant charges for water until you receive your bill.
Side note: Mexican restaurants with (the best) spicy avocado/jalapeno sauce should offer water for free. This restaurant sells its food at such a low cost they should offer free water and raise their prices just a little (tacos, quesadillas, etc.)
Overall 2/5 stars from me. The past 3 weeks I have come to this restaurant they have been out of goat every time and beef once. The servers overcharged me $7 by accident and I caught it before it was too late. 2 of the past 3 times my friends dined at this establishment the servers got our orders wrong by ordering the wrong food/wrong amounts of food. This all happened when they were not even too busy as well.
I have been coming to this restaurant for over 5 years now. I remember when they used to be located at their small location with only a few tables to this new, larger location.
I will not be dining at this restaurant until management straightens things out. The service is unacceptable and I am taking my business elsewhere.

I think people are confusing the Store and the Taqueria. The Taqueria was good. The store was not.
I came in based on the reviews saying this was as good as the menudo in Texas. Spoiler alert it was not. I just moved up here from Texas so i think I am a good judge on this one. I have been trying to find my Sunday menudo replacement I used to have back in TX for months and still nothing in Michigan compares.
First, the ordering process is a bit clunky. I am never sure if I need to form a line to order and then get back in line in between the crates of vegetables again to pay. This seems like an easy fix. Just pay when you order and step aside for pick up.
Second, the menudo actually tasted somewhat burnt. It was overcooked to oblivion and just a mushy mess. It also seemed like it was not cleaned right and the fat was not trimmed before cooking. Hence the 3/8" layer of grease floating on top.
Third, the menudo was a bit bland and had no actual menudo. 90% of the "meat" was pata and fat. I was never asked if I wanted pata they just put it in there. Some people like it but I dont. Most places ask if you want it. To be honest I am not sure what kind of "meat" it was. Hard to tell since it was over cooked and everything looked the same. On the left is the fat/pata that I could not eat. On the right was the actual menudo maybe?
I have given this place too many chances and the result is the same. $12 for this mush is just not worth it. I cant speak for the other items here as I have only tried the menudo. I guess for now I will just have to keep...

I don't usually care to review restaurants (like at all) unless they were terrible. Las Tortugas however is AMAZING! I can not recommend them enough. I have never had a bad meal from Las Tortugas. Seriously just FANTASTIC high quality food. I really wish them all the success in the world because they truly deserve it. They used to be in the same strip mall as my office making it a one minute walk to get lunch...I considered myself very lucky. They have since moved to a BEAUTIFUL location down Van Dyke (40850 Van Dyke Ave for anyone interested). This new location is now ten times as long to get to and I have to take my car. Doesn't even matter to me STILL ENTIRELY WORTH IT. AND since they moved to the new location my Quesadillas are even BETTER (AND BIGGER). If you are looking for a reason to have lunch/dinner at Las Tortugas look no further. High quality, Amazing tasting, and affordable. They could charge a lot more for what you're getting but they don't. I hope they can one day put a Las Tortugas in every city. They deserve to be the next (and much better) On The Boarder!!!
