Mi Rancho Shenandoah — Restaurant in Shenandoah

End result: my opinion is that Mi Rancho was just mediocre. I don't get it: the dining area and cocktail bar ambiance is fun, lively like being at a celebration in Mexico, the service is outstanding, it's busy it's kept clean, but the food...was just overpriced Taco Bell grade food at about $23 per person. We were disappointed. I hate giving less than stellar reviews but I have to just be honest about my personal experience here, because out of all the factors that make a great restaurant it really just comes down to one thing: the quality of the food. Even though all my other experience at this restaurant were A+, the food was a C-. I was very excited to try here because I've always seen that it's busy, I've seen the reviews on Yelp and other websites. We were greeted and seated rather quickly even though it was very busy in here. The staff was super friendly and acknowledged us quickly and took our food and drink orders. The menu has a good variety of items listed on it and they're cocktail bars seems to be quite lively. The amount of time from ordering to bringing food to our table was very quick! We ordered the sour cream enchiladas, the burrito Sabroso, chicken quesadilla plate and the law Placita which had a little bit of everything on there. The presentation of the food was great but when you get to the actual ingredients and taste it was disappointing. The meal portion sizes were rather small, the meals tasted a bit heavy-handed on the salt, the meats tastes and textures were below expectations, and the cheese was a processed Velveeta style cheese. What's disappointing was that everything up to the point of the taste of the food was spectacular. I've eaten a lot of TexMex and ultimately, I just wasn't impressed. Overall if you're looking for a good bar or very basic Tex-Mex type of meal this is a great place for you. But for me I don't feel that I got what I paid for. I personally cannot give high recommendations for Mi Rancho but I'm sure they have enough other followers that have a different opinion than mine. OK, based on all the reviews on here I was really excited about trying this place and was sure I would enjoy it. The place had an appealing atmosphere and we were seated in a nice enough area. I have a problem when a server comes to your table to take your drink and appetizer order before you've even have time to sit down and look at the menu. I order a glass of cabernet which I found out later was almost $10. My wife ordered a margarita and she really liked it a lot. Were served salsa and chips right away and I really really wanted to like the salsa but I didn't. It tasted like warm, canned tomatoes and there was a stalk of something in it, definitely not cilantro but maybe celery I think. Our server immediately took our order and it's a good thing I looked at the menu beforehand because we barely had time to look at that. I'm not kidding it wasn't five minutes after ordering that our food came out. I thought I would be able to look forward to a satisfying and filling meal but instead I ended up eating half my wife's as she was totally unsatisfied with hers. The enchiladas were small and thin. I had one of each, chicken, beef and cheese. Why is it these places don't think of seasoning their meat. The sauce was good but overall the dish was boring and bland AND SMALL. I do like that they serve it with a small tortilla shell of queso. But no other garnish like pico or quacamole. I was still hungry so I ordered a small queso. That took forever and when he brought it over I had to ask for it to go. I was still waiting for someone to bring the check over when he brought it back. It took forever to get the check and even longer to get my card back. We were both really disappointed and when it comes to Mexican food, I am not easily disappointed. I am still wondering how the place was so crowded, maybe the prices. To make matters worse we both had horrible acid reflux that night and upset stomachs...

8/19/22 - I came on here to edit my review because I’ve been waiting on a response from the manager HOWEVER if you look through the reviews here Management only comments on their good reviews, there are no comments on the ones where they disappointed, failed their customers, fell short on providing good service. Meaning, they do not care to make it right or even acknowledge that they lost a loyal customer. Just adds insult to injury. I’m not a “Karen” either, just a “former” loyal customer that was hoping this place cared when they really failed to get it right.

Original review June 2022: How awfully disappointing!!! We love this restaurant and came here tonight as a table of 10 to celebrate a birthday and it was the worst experience EVER!!

1. they stuck a table of 10 against the wall even though the the dining room had plenty of empty tables.
2. they only had 1 guy waiting on half the dining room
3. we waited forever to order food
4. we had to buss our own table and staff saw us and did not come help
5. we had to get our own to-go boxes
6. we were offered no refills after we were given food
7. I had to go ask the hostesses for our check. I told the 3 hostesses that were standing at the front everything that had happened. And told them we have never had such bad service. They said they weren’t expecting a crowd so they only brought in a few people. (Not expecting a crowd?? This place always has a crowd!)
