Carpenter Bar for me is mehh... I've been here once and that's it. Many people have been telling me it's not the best bar since their drinks don't even taste like cocktails, more like alcohol bombs. I didn't want to believe it. When I went there, my husband got a Long Island, I got a tiramisu drink and my mother in law got a coffee martini. My husband's drink was undrinkable, there was no long island taste, only vodka taste and it burned. My drink barely had any tiramisu flavor that was expected. It was mostly burning and unbalanced. And the coffee martini was not bad, but again, it was hard to swallow. When I go to a cocktail bar, I love drinks to have a balance taste. I usually go to The Treasury at Hotel Phillips, just a few streets down Phillips Ave. I would give it another shot to see if I would be a continuing customer at this bar. So we'll have to see. If the experience changes, I might just update this review ❤️

Update: I would like to express that I went a second time on Sunday the 18th of August of 2024, to give it a chance. We had family from Cali come out to visit us and we wanted to have a nice cocktail... Since many things are closed on Sundays at SFSD, we decided to stop by for a drink. And wow, I would like to express that the drinks were balanced and incredible. I could taste anything other than a Shot of alcohol. Not sure what bartender was there on that day, but give them a raise 💸💸💸 Not only that, the service was very professional and hospitable, and the cheese board we ordered was incredible. Honestly, take it from me, if the first time wasn't a good experience, give it a second chance. You might just be surprised 🙀 ❤️...

From the moment I took my first sip, I knew I was in for a treat. The espresso martini was a perfect balance of rich, smooth espresso and velvety textures, complemented by a subtle hint of sweetness. It was a true delight for coffee and cocktail enthusiasts alike, leaving me craving another sip even after the glass was empty.

Read moreFriday night. Downtown SF. Balmy & happening. People enjoying themselves outside on the full front patio. At 9:00 it was still 90+ deg. out. Walking past, I noticed this GORGEOUS bar. It made me back up, “let’s check this place out!” We walked inside to the cool air temperature (which was a welcome relief) and into the obscure, reserved, classy bar. You could tell this place made a good drink. Tables were full, but there were 3 empty bar stools. My son, his gf and I started to sit down and the oldest bartender jumped on me and said “someone is sitting there. She’s coming back!” I immediately apologized and said “oh gosh..sorry about that.” No biggie. We just moved to the 2 open stools (after I asked if they were open) and my son said he could stand. We’re accustomed to the bar scene so this was no big deal to us. We just wanted a drink. Then he proceeded to say “have you checked outside?” Rather rudely. And I said “no, are you wanting us to?” I was genuinely asking because I was kind of confused by his attitude. (It was hot, that’s why we chose to sit inside.) The nice gentleman at the end of the bar (with 2 young women) offered to move down one as there WAS an empty seat, so there ended up being space for the 3 of us. The other bartenders were a little pretentious, however one of them was so kind and polite. Nice guy. Strawberry blonde with an earring. Anyway….besides the unfriendly welcoming, the drinks were AMAZING!! We had an Old Fashioned, an Espresso Martini and the 3/4 Nelson. Gorgeous small bar, fantastic drinks, meh bartenders. Spendy prices, but the drinks are worth it. $42 tab-3 drinks +...
