We came here for my dads birthday, had never been here before but I’m so glad this is the place we decided to go. As soon as we walked in, the vibe was great. Very cozy atmosphere. We got seated right away, our server came over quickly too, all was great! I got a French dip, it was delish, we got shakes, they were phenomenal. For my dads birthday our server gave us his shake on the house! While the food was great, that’s not really why I wanted to write a review. We went there an entire week ago and I’m still thinking about this single act of kindness our server showed to us.
We were talking amongst ourselves about going to the falls after we ate. We paid our bill, said our thank you’s, and left. We’re walking around the falls, having a good time, and all of a sudden our server comes up to us! We had left our card at the restaurant and didn’t even notice. Let me put that into perspective. This guy overheard us talking about the falls, got off his shift on a weekend, drove around the falls, found us, ran up to us, and gave us our card back. He didn’t wait around for a thank you or a tip either, he just smiled and ran back up to his motorcycle. Whaaaattt?? Read that again!! That kind of genuine, kind hearted, thoughtful individual is few and far in between these days. We were all honestly kinda shocked, I didn’t even get a chance to ask his name or for his Venmo (wish I would’ve!).
Management, if you are reading this, please please I beg of you, give this guy a raise. I personally will be, and have been, telling everyone I know about this place. Again, the food was great, but he made a forever impression on my family. Truly. I mean I’m literally here a week later still raving about it. This kind of thing deserves to be acknowledged & rewarded. I didn’t get his name but he was wearing a BMO hat (should’ve known by his taste that he was a cool person haha) & drives a white motorcycle. He deserves every ounce of good karma. Hopefully he will be there when, not if,...
Read moreFantastic, fun, friendly diner serving all your comfort food favorites! Numerous friends and colleagues highly recommended dining at Phillips Avenue Diner when visiting Sioux Falls. On my recent business trip to Sioux Falls, I decided to check Phillips out and I'm so very glad I did! Phillips Avenue Diner definitely deserves the rave reviews and high recommendations. Phillips is a traditional diner providing authentic, family friendly experience with a decor, atmosphere and vibe of a popular diner. There is plenty of indoor seating, including counter seating and outdoor patio services (weather permitting!). Phillips has all the traditional diner-style comfort foods, as well as complete entrée dinners. Diners can find all types of sandwiches, burgers, chicken, salads and, of course, milk shakes and desserts. My colleague and I visited Phillips for lunch, I enjoyed the "burger melt" which is more commonly known as a patty melt, with fries as my side. My colleague ordered the Reuben. Both of our sandwiches were delicious! Absolutely no complaints! Our server was excellent; friendly, efficient and professional. She was most welcoming to us when we explained this was our first visit to Phillips. The dining room and facilities is immaculate and very well maintained. The diner is located in downtown Sioux Falls, on (you guessed it!), Phillips Avenue. I can't wait to get back to Sioux Falls again, so I can visit Phillips Avenue Diner again!! My next visit I WILL indulge in a milk shake!! I totally recommend Phillips!! Perfect location for large and small groups. Awesome music from the 70's/80's playing. Menu has something...
Read moreThis place is a setback in time, in the middle of a modern city. An intentional retro feel, with modern touches, including the ability to order online. The outside already hints at a blast from the past, and walking in, confirms it with the old style round padded and colored swivel bar stools, and matching retro decor. Immediately seemed like a popular place, as there was a waiting list for a table, and plenty of people willing to wait. Once we were called up to be seated, we were brought back to a table in the far end. It was a little cooler back there, which I personally like, but some were a little chilled. We started with giving their poutine a try. For those who aren’t familiar with this dish, it’s a plate of French fries, along with cheese curds, and brown gravy, and is much more prevalent in the Northern Regions, especially Canada. It was pretty decent, but it’s also kinda hard to go wrong with making fries and gravy and some cheese. For the meals, we had the hot beef sandwich and also the Jambalaya. Hot beef was pretty good. Again, something that’s hard to get too wrong, as it’s beef, mashed potatoes, bread and gravy, but still, it was a good selection. The jambalaya wasn’t a favorite. It resembled a bit more like dirty rice with some sausage, and then a strong sauce to give it flavor. The sauce was good, but it was very salty, and made the whole dish quite salty. I would opt for a different selection next time. Service was good, and the waitress was helpful and stayed on top of things. Over all, it was a good experience, and would look forward to being in town to try it again, to see how the experience compared...
