Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Smyrna

Throughout my childhood, teen, college and adult experiences, this place is always a colossal letdown. The most recent experience prompted me to review this terrible location. I hadn't been back since a homeless man was running around the inside harassing patrons and telling us how he was going to assault us. Luckily, the police showed up after 20 minutes to arrest him, so that we could all finish our meals in peace. My only reason for stopping here recently was to use a gift card that I got for Christmas. After waiting for 10 minutes in the drive through it was my turn to order. Another 10 minutes went by while I kept saying "Hello" to the call box with no response. Finally, my patience ran out and I went to pull away. As I pulled away, someone said "Sorry, go ahead." But I was already completely out of the drive through line. I pulled into a spot and went inside. I let the girl at the counter know I was waiting in the drive through for over ten minutes with no response at the call box. I asked if I might be served inside. She offered no apologies and could not look less interested in assisting me. She only said, "you still gone have to wait" with the attitude of a pestered younger sibling. When I asked for a menu she just pointed across the room. Though she was extremely rude and less than helpful, I decided to grab a menu and order. The girl at the counter immediately walked away and started aimlessly pacing back and forth through the kitchen and restaurant. After making a decision, I waited another 5 minutes for the girl who was just working at the counter to acknowledge me. She never did. She just continued to pace back and forth completely ignoring me. Instead of having a complete meltdown at this point, I realized how miserable her life must be and left. It is clear that after 20 years of living in this area, that there is no imminent change coming to this location. I would recommend avoiding this place unless you like being harassed by vagrants or...

So now this is our second Steak n Shake that we attempted for the night. We went in seated ourselves and got a new waitress. Then ordered our food and it took 45 minutes to receive anything. I had a meal that came with a cookie my cookie came first my food came another 30-40 minutes after the cookie. It felt like they were skipping over us because we see other people getting their food. So when our food finally came and I ordered extra on the side some onion rings it came with fries but I got no fries until later. My friend food came wrong. So I felt bad sitting there eating my food and she didn't have nothing to eat, we had to wait for them to remake her food. So I could have been rude and said take my food back because I want to eat at the same time as the person I'm with but no I waited thinking that her food would have came out sooner since it was remade. We called for a manager that never wanted to come , she got her remade food which still came out wrong. Yes we were compensated but who wanted to spend three hours for a burger in the fry like ridiculous. The manager finally came but gave us so many excuses it didn't make no sense. Honestly I felt as though he was being used nicer 2 the other race in the restaurant then us being African-American! He came to their table 2 serve them a compensated milkshake but wouldn't come to ours. We nearly had to beg this man to come on a 5th try and he came over but this is my last week it seemed as if he don't care about us and our service. I didn't like that I don't care how busy you are we should be prepared for the worst because you're in the area where you would be always busy. Been craving Steak and Shake for a good little 2 weeks then finally get it and it didn't even meet my expectations. I may or may not go back again. Horrible, service for a call on-line order, will not go back especially at night, which is the time I would normally be going to steak n shake, the experience was horrible. I order my food, simple, pay for my food, and leave work to go get my food, it says it will be ready in 15min, ok takes me 10 min to get there, will leave now, get there a couple min before the food was suppose to be ready, there is a gentleman standing waiting to place an order at the counter, no body was helping him, several people just standing around, one lady comes from the back, and asks, do you have a call in, i say yes, and then she tells me to hold on a sec, while she takes this guys order, i look at the service window and i see a to go order in the window, i try to tell her, but by now she is engrossed with this other gentleman and his four orders, so about 10 mins later, she walks over to the window and asks, is this your food, i say yes that is mine, and she hands it to me like i am not going to check it, i open the bag, and taste the fries, they are getting cold, she says hold on a sec, let me get you new ones, then takes the bag to the back, and turns around, comes back up, curling over the top of the bag, and said, lucky we just had fries come up, and hands me the bag, and i just took it and left, because i knew the cold fries were still in the bag. i get back to my destination, open the bag, same cold fries, only colder, burger at this point is getting cold, and the cookie that was in the bag was burnt and very crispy and uneatable. the vegetable soup was cold as well. I will not ever go back to this location, they just lost a good customer to Waffle House, as i work over nights and NO-ONE else is open at 3am in the morning.
