Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Dinner at Whiskey 'N Rye was incredible! We had the Brisket Dirty Fries, Cast Iron Cornbread,Fried Pickles, the BBQ Sampler Trio, with Three Cheese Mac 'n Cheese, the Garlic Smashed Fries, and Coleslaw as sides, the Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie with McConnell's vanilla Bean Ice Cream for dessert, and for drinks we had a Henry Weinheard Root Beer and Orange Cream Soda, a Fig Mountain Citrus Shandy from the Beer selection, and The Atterdag, from the Craft Cocktail selection. Oh my goodness! All we're incredible! The smoked brisket, waffle fries, and Gouda had me at hello on the dirty fries, but then became even more out of this world with it's mozzarella, green onion, and oh my gosh, the pickled red onion and chipotle cream sauce! It was honestly difficult to maintain conversation with our dinner party because it was so commanding of my tastebuds! So delicious! The cornbread was super yummy, too! The Fried Pickles were the absolute best we've ever had, a must order! I cannot emphasize that enough! The BBQ Sampler Trio was heavenly! The brisket, ribs, and pork we're mouthwatering delicious! The BBQ sauce was delicious, too, and I am still dreaming about that Carolina Gold Sauce that comes with that Sampler Trio! The sides we had with the trio were the Three Cheese Mac, Coleslaw, and the Garlic Smashed Fries we amazing! My husband doesn't like coleslaw and he loved the coleslaw at Whiskey 'N Rye! I couldn't believe my eyes! He kept going back to it! All the sides were wonderful! The drinks we ordered were fantastic! My husband loved the Fig Mountain Citrus Shandy beer, which was recommended by our server. Our son loved the Henry Weinheard sodas, and my Atterdag was fabulous and refreshing! The music was spot on and the ambiance was absolute perfection! We experienced much while in the area, but The Whisky 'N Rye will be bringing us back to Solvang, and to the wonderful bakeries and the cute little towns around it! We're already looking for time on our calendar to return! Thank you, Whisky 'N Rye, for making our experience so spectacular! We'll...
Read moreVisited Solvang which is the Danish capital of America, it looks so picturesque on the photos when I was planning my US trip that I got to visit there.
It was around 3 hours drive from Carmel by the Sea or 5 hours from San Francisco, I do recommend you break the trip into 2 nights to slowly absorb the vibes of the 2 lovely towns.
One of the popular smokehouse is Whiskey & Rye, again I couldn’t unseen the brisket and ribs when I was researching places to eat and immediately reserve a table through OpenTable.
We ordered a Trio Sampler that comes with 2 sides because we wanted to try brisket and ribs and they do have a wide variety of choices and we opted for Mac & cheese with corn quarters.
The corn quarters was a winner, nicely char with a really smoky & savory sauce drizzle over it. Mac & cheese was nice but not cheesy enough though.
The trio sampler comes with 3 kinds of meat. The pork ribs was delicious, marinades were good n on point, the sides of the ribs were a little bit tough but we still enjoyed it.
Brisket which I was hoping to be more of melt in the mouth kind was a bit dry and probably the least of our favorite, however the underdog was the pulled pork. I have never had a pulled pork dish that doesn’t feel dry, but this changed everything. It was moist, flavorful and I find myself getting more of it which is probably a first, highly recommend!
Jalapeño cornbread was a winner too, the sides were crisp and addictive and there is a hint of spice likely from the jalapeño bits, goes really well with the meat.
The Cobb steak salad comes with generous portion of salad greens, blue cheese, corn kernels, tomatoes and steak cubes that you can choose the level of doneness too.
We were totally stuffed by the end of it with 3 dishes and happily walked back...
Read moreOn our day trip to Solvang, we were drawn to this restaurant strictly by the smoky smell of barbecue. We were greeted at the front podium by Matthew, who was very warm, friendly, and very accommodating to our first-time time visit. Brittany, our server, was such a treat. She helped me identify the local Whiskey brands, and I wound up offering a shot of Krobar bourbon for my Irish coffee. Also, shout out to the bartender Jasmine that offered a Whiskey-infused creme that elevated my drink to the next level. I didn't need to add any additional sweetners to coffee because the infused creme did the job by itself. I ordered the smoked spaghetti squash with a Caesar salad. Hubby ordered the grilled swordfish (it was surprisingly a small portion) with a side of sweet potato fries and a Caesar salad, as well. Both entrees were absolutely delicious and worth having. Although, whenever we return, the plan is to try their smoked meats, especially their brisket. Remember, it was the smell of barbecue that drew us over to the direction of the restaurant in the first place. But by the end of our weekend getaway to Santa Barbara, Lompoc, and Solvang, we had eaten our share of pastries, pizza, meats, and wine. So, we opted for lighter food choices before we hit that two hour road trip back home. Phenomenal flavors, attentive customer service, tasty drinks, and a plethora of decadent-looking desserts on the adjacent side of the restaurant for direct purchase and carryout. Thank you, Matthew, for the seating arrangements and your management skills, Brittany for the meal and drink suggestions, and Jasmine for the bartending magic. We will be back to Whiskey N Rye in Solvang, as this restaurant is DEFINITELY...
