Meal started with Tom kha, a coconut broth based soup. The flavor of the broth was quite good. But the soup was over loaded with slices of onions. The ratio of onion to anything else in the soup was 10 to 1. I picked them out and half the $10 bowl was empty. I do love onions, but this was extreme overkill. Tom kha is one of my favorite Thai foods and I eat a lot of Thai food, so it pains me to see a dish with potential destroyed to this degree.
I also had their prawns in a peanut sauce. The vegetables were slightly cooked The sauce over powered everything and was over applied. The prawns weren't fully cooked either. It was like a huge pile of goo. The sauce might be okay as a salad dressing but for a dish, just doesn't cut it. The sauce would have benefited from rice vinegar, soy and sesame oil. I had to pay extra for rice, which should come with the meal. I also had their Thai iced coffee, which was so sweet it was undrinkable. Overall service...
Read moreBangkok 9 was such a wonderful surprise. We had attempted two restaurants previous to arriving at Bangkok. We arrived at about 5:30. The calm before the storm, ha! Here we enjoyed a Thai iced coffee and iced tea, sweet and sour chicken as well as chicken pad see ew. The reason for not giving a five start rating was because of the service. Our server changed every time something was brought to the table. A couple of key things were forgotten, & lastly my biggest peeve. My husband and I didn't get to eat at the same time. His dish arrived about, 10 minutes before mine. Other than those complaints. The ambience is beautiful, they suggest putting away your cell phones, they promote a healthy wholesome vibe and I tottaly dig it. I cant wait to...
Read moreWe’ve been to this spot several times over the years—sometimes it hits the mark, other times it’s just okay. Unfortunately, this last visit was our final one. We were charged $100 for three entrees, a small sticky rice, and two drinks that were overwhelmingly sweet. For that price, the quality and portion sizes simply don’t add up—especially when most of the meal is rice and noodles, which are among the cheapest ingredients out there.
The inconsistency in food quality is one thing, but the pricing is what really sealed it. Sonoma has long been frustrating when it comes to food—overpriced for what you get is the norm here—and this was just another example. Disappointing end to what used to be a...
