Today was the last time I will enter a Heidi's Brooklyn Deli. The shop in South Portland Maine really needs to have customer service explained to them. Today I came in and ordered a Chef Salad without ham and a coffee. I was pretty horrified at the presentation of the salad as well as the limited choice of dressings, the plastic fork in plastic and the awful little creamers for the coffee. Heidi's could certainly learn a lesson from Panera's Bread across the street. However this was not the main issue. I ordered my salad and went to pay. When the cashier asked what I ordered I distinctly said a Chef salad and coffee. Probably the cashier should repeat the order back so errors are less likely. To my chagrin as I sat down and was about to start opening all the little dressing packets, a man came up to me and said gruffly and unapologetically, in an almost accusing voice, that my order had been rung in incorrectly as a green salad and I owed him two dollars more. I said ok let's get that two dollars taken care of at which time he said oh no its more than that- its at least $4. I went up to the register with him, leaving my food and feeling like I was being stared at. I said I would need a receipt for the return on what they had charged me and a new receipt for the amount they were charging me now. He said oh no I can't do that because we have not charged your card we do it as a batch at night. I also never got an apology for all of this inconvenience over what started out as $2. Imagine how I was feeling by now and what I was thinking. And that salad really did not look all that great to begin with, I wish I had taken a picture, but it looked like a bowl completely spread across the top with deli turkey meat and all those little packs of salad dressing at the side. I find this is really poor customer service. Michael's demeanor (I am one of the owners he said when asked) and the way he treated me even more than that $2 or $4 or however much it was is what has lost my family...

The Vegetarian Breakfast Burrito—stuffed with scrambled eggs, potatoes, avocado, cheese, and green chile—was hearty without being heavy. Creamy, savory, and just enough heat to awaken even the sleepiest Padawan.
But the real lightsaber moment? The smoothies. Ordered the Hawaiian Hurricane and Caribbean Spice—both freshly blended and bursting with real fruit flavor. The Hurricane was smooth and bright, like sipping sunshine on Naboo. The Caribbean Spice? A mellow tropical blend with a whisper of cinnamon—subtle, warm, and perfectly balanced. No syrupy tricks—just the natural power of the fruit.
Friendly staff, fast service, and a menu with options from both the light side (vegetarian-friendly) and the meatier end of the galaxy.
🥤 Heidi’s is a solid stop on any South Portland mission. Order the burrito, sip the cinnamon, and let the flavor flow...
Read moreAs I walked into Heidi's Brooklyn deli I was immediately greeted by the staff and asked if I could be helped. I told them it was my first time and I wanted to look over the menu. As I was looking over the menu a gentleman told me if I had any questions he would be happy to be of service. I then asked what was his recommendation and he told me the top sellers for cold and hot sandwiches. I decided on getting the Brooklyn Ruben and boy am I glad I did! The sandwich was awesome and it was perfectly toasted and it was warm and my cheese was melted and the meat was awesome quality with barely any fat. I am absolutely happy I found Heidi's deli and I feel as though I was treated really well and I will definitely be back! I would also highly recommend this place to anyone as I will continue to do so as this is a new favorite restaurant of mine! Thank you for your top notch service staff of Heidi's Brooklyn deli as you have...
