MISSION BBQ — Restaurant in Southington

Not living in Southington, I'm not on Queen street often, but recently found myself there on a nice enough day where you could have the windows down in the car. The smell of BBQ wafting in the area hit me like a baseball bat (in a good way!) I'd never smelled that, that strong, anywhere in CT before. Then all of a sudden, there it was! Mission BBQ!!! I was stunned to see it.....one day there's nothing there, the next there's Chik-Fil-A and Mission BBQ!!! It was a very good day to be me, being from the south and all that.

I knew of MBBQ from trips to PA to see my brother, and was a HUGE fan of both their "Mission", and their food. They are HUGE supporters of the military and local first responders, and go out of their way to show it, including a "Veterans Only" parking spot. As a decorated War Vet, I really like that!!! And EVERYthing is fresh-made & smoked on-site....they do NOT have a microwave OR a freezer!!

The staff is super friendly, and their drink selection is awesome, with southern fave's like Cheerwine, RC Cola, Grape Nehi, & Yahoo. Beer is coming soon, both local & national varieties. That'll make it perfect. NOTHING goes better with a Carolina Style Pulled Pork sandwich, than a nice cold beer. Can't wait!!

And the meats.......ooooooohhhhhhhh wow.....the meats are out of this world!! Pork, Chicken, Turkey, Beef....I've tried them all, and was disappointed in none. Being a self-professed BBQ Master, I'd find fault if there was any...but not here! The meat flavors are stellar, and the sauces accent them perfectly! The sides are killer too...The Mac & Cheese is some of the best I've had in the northeast, and their fries are the perfect size, cut skin-on, and have this amazing seasoning on them. I was told by a Mgr. that they hand process 400lbs of potatoes a day...I believe it.

They're a newer "chain", only about 5-6 years old, with 40'ish locations, but the quality of the food is legit across the board. I went there twice before they officially opened and have gone back at least once every 10 days since. They're neither cheap nor expensive, but right in the middle. And as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Here, that's truer than ever. I love...

Everyone that’s gone told me they didn’t like it. I decided to try it myself and I’m glad I did. The customer service was outstanding. We were newbies and they guided us on what’s best to try. The restaurant was clean and I enjoyed the decor of the entire establishment. Especially the walls where the bathrooms were. I couldn’t get a photo because people were always standing there. I believe I started off with a lemonade which was yummy. I got Chopped Barbq, Collards, & Mac n Cheese. I am not fond of everyone’s cornbread so me not liking that is normal lol. The collards had tomatoes in them which I’ve never seen in my life but I enjoyed the flavor. The Mac n Cheese wasn’t anything special to me but it wasn’t bad just plain I guess. The Chopped Barbq was also plain looking which mad me nervous at 1st. Then I realized the different options for sauces on the table! That’s when the magic happened lol! I squirted a lil on each bit until I found THE ONE lol! I would definitely come again. UPDATE‼️So I caught a flat and decided to eat here again while I waited. Lol town fair tire called me and I literally had to dash out right after ordering. I came back and grabbed my cold food with no problem. They came over to me with a fresh tray since I had to run out. Love it! I can’t say enough how much I appreciate great customer service! Thanks Summer and the crew! You made my day☺️Side note I know my fav sauces now! It’s Bay-B-Que &...

Mission BBQ went above and beyond! The food was incredible, the atmosphere was peaceful and refreshing, and the staff — absolutely amazing. Anthony and his crew showed a level of kindness that truly felt Heaven-sent.

My fiancée and I were having a really tough day — we honestly came in with tears in our eyes and left with joyful ones. I don’t know if they could see it on our faces, but somehow, they made us feel completely at home. It felt like God placed us there in that very moment for a reason. Their warmth lifted our spirits and reminded us that His light still shines through people every single day.

Great people. Great place. Great food. 🙏 This is what every restaurant should strive to be — not just a place to eat, but a place that feeds the heart and soul.

And honestly, even this review doesn’t begin to describe how great this experience truly was.
