Excitement and doubt waged war in my mind as I walked into the restaurant with my wife. The smells of french fries and grilled chicken wafted through the air instilling confidence in the parts of my brain telling me this would be a great place for a date. Excitement had won the battle as I stepped in line, but the war wasn't over yet.
My wife didn't seem as convinced, her expression asking if I was sure that we would like this place. "I've never even heard of super chix, do you really think it'll be any good?"
There was only one way to find out.
Our turn to order came before we had decided what we wanted. Feeling we should stick to the basics for a genuine taste of what the restaurant had to offer we opted to try the grilled chicken sandwich and the Buffalo chicken sandwich, with salted fries and a chocolate custard to share.
Not wanting date night to be a bust we crossed our fingers in hopes that we would like the food.
As we took our seats doubt began to gain ground. With every passing moment more fears crossed my mind, tearing down the confidence I'd gained earlier. The possibility that my sandwich could be as nasty as McDonald's lousy excuse for a chicken sandwich made me fidgety and nervous.
I preferred not to express this doubt, knowing my wife likely was having very similar fears to my own, and I didn't want them to multiply. So to mask my worry I began to flirt with my wife, making a point to be as mushy as possible.
With the distraction of young love we didn't notice the server approaching, and we turned away from our public display of affection to see that our food had arrived.
Feeling slightly embarrassed that we'd likely made the server uncomfortable, we bashfully took our food and at last were ready to eat.
I took a hold of my Buffalo chicken sandwich knowing that I'd regret not going to some place familiar if I didn't like it. I'd never found a chicken sandwich that I liked more than Chick-fil-A, and the thought that one was just across the street made it all the more daunting.
Sweat dripped down my forehead in spite of the cold winter air, this was it, the moment where all was decided. I raised the sandwich to my lips, knowing the war of excitement and doubt would all come down to this single bite I was about to take.
My mind raced as I opened my jaws, mouth watering with anticipation, body shaking with trepidation. The sandwich entered my awaiting orifice and my teeth sank into the soft bun.
And then it happened.
Serotonin, dopamine, endorphins, whatever it was exploded in my mind. Perfectly tender and juicy chicken filled my mouth and nothing but pure ecstasy filled my mind. Finally I had discovered the perfect chicken sandwich!
Before I knew it the sandwich was gone along with half the fries, my doubts vanquished. I was left with nothing but a hunger for more, a longing to have the sandwich, and eat it too.
Seeing my obvious satisfaction with my sandwich my wife began to eat her sandwich and portion of fries. She found them to be quite gratifying. Her appetite being quelled before the last bite that she shared with me.
Happy with our meal we tried the chocolate frozen custard, and we both agreed that it was quite good, but nowhere near as fantastic as the sandwiches were.
Our hopes realized in a fantastic dinner we left the restaurant with high spirits and full bellies, excited to return. No...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst off, I had been on the road most of the day and I had not had much to eat all day and so I was rather hungry and here it was almost 8pm. Based on the price of my order I was under the assumption it came with fries and the person taking my order didn't ask if I wanted only the sandwich or if I wanted it in a combo or something- I don't come across too many fast food places where they don't ask. Also, I don't feel like the menu made it clear that fries are ordered separately and I saw no reason to even question it. I also really struggled hearing the person taking my order, though I was standing feet away, because she spoke much too quietly. Additionally I was more focused on making sure my child got what she wanted and helping her order. You can imagine my disappointment, being so hungry, upon seeing all I got was a smaller sandwich. We still had a long drive ahead of us for a couple more hours so I didn't want to have to go back up to the counter and order more food and have to wait for food a second time. So, however it's accomplished, it would be nice if patrons could know what's actually coming with their meal when they order.
Beyond that, I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich but with only pickles, no cheese, no tomatoes, no mayo, NOTHING to help cut through the more salty flavor of the sauce, it was not that great. I love spicy food and I love strong flavors, but I think tomatoes, mayo and cheese should always go on a sandwich with meat in it. Otherwise the saltiness of the meat and in this case the saltiness of the sauce aren't balanced out and the sandwich is dry and salty. So not only was my meal not enough food, but it was salty and dry as it was. On top of that, something about the sandwich didn't set well with me and I have had gut issues all the next morning. I haven't yet eaten anything since and I keep having to make trips into the restroom. That might be just me and my own gut, but still... what a disappointment of a meal. I'm not eager to return...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreActually the worst customer service Iāve ever had. I came in the weekend night of 1/13 right before 9pm (over an hour until close) and I watched uncomfortably as 2 employees from across the restaurant argued about taking our order. The guy that lost the battle was visibly upset about it. He came over and sat on his phone in front of the register for a little bit as we waited for him to finish what he was doing so that we could order, and then took out his AirPods and folded his arms, annoyed, to take our order. When I ordered a kids meal I ordered a custard that apparently isnāt available with the kids meal. Instead of explaining that he says āno weāre not doing thatā I asked why and he was annoyed that he even had to explain himself and said āthat doesnāt come with the kids mealā I asked what did come with the kids meal. He said āvanilla, chocolate or the flavor of the day, but weāre not doing chocolateā. Meanwhile anytime he wasnāt actively putting something in the register his arms were folded across his chest. By the end of the order I was so uncomfortable and confused by the rudeness of this employee I almost told him to cancel my order. One of the other guys working, the one who brought our order, was perfectly pleasant and nice.
I gave two stars because the food was good as always. Although the service of this kid made me want to do 1 star.
While we ate he stacked every single one of the chairs surrounding us and tipped almost all the tables, someone came in around 9:15 and asked āare you open?ā Which all the employees just sat around staring at him. He asked again and (the nicest of all the employees) checked his watch and said yes and took their order.
I get that theyāre trying to pre-close and sometimes itās annoying to get set back. But if you work a customer service job maybe be a little nicer to the customers?? Also an hour before close is a little excessive to be making people feel...
