Delaney's Irish Pub — Restaurant in Spartanburg

We came here during Music on Main and knew it was going to be busy. We had 3 and a highchair and was told an hour and a half wait for outside seating and we were fine with that. We walked around and listened to music and then was called about an hour and 20 minutes or so BUT it was to sit with other people. We love socializing but were not told that we would be waiting on a table to sit with other people. Since we had children with us, we wanted to seat alone and have dinner so the host said we would be next to sit at a table to ourselves. We waited about 30 MORE minutes and then was sat at a hightop table. Now, they knew we had a highchair so you can imagine how this worked out but we dealt with it because we had already waited close to 2 hours.

They problem is, that people are allowed to come, eat/drink and sit and listen to music. This is fine as long as these people continue to order from Delaneys but we saw people going to the drink stand to get drinks and coming back to their table and also saw people with food from other restaurants coming to hang out with people that were clearly done eating but just hung out at the table anyway. I feel like something needs to be put into place about time limits during these events OR if you're not ordering anything, then leave. There were several other families, not just us, waiting to sit and actually have dinner. One couple was told their buzzer went off already and they would have to wait, AGAIN, another hour for a table.

We LOVE Delaneys and come here often and this is the second time we've had an issue which is the only reason I'm writing this! I just hope to see some changes made to make the experience...

Edit: Returned recently for Fish and Chips. It was great.

Came for Restaurant Week. It was our first time here, although we've been wanting to try it for a while because we heard good things.

I got the Shepherds Pie, something I haven't eaten for probably 20 years. Unfortunately, I can only label it as mediocre. I was not convinced that this was freshly prepared for me. And it was much too salty, so much so I couldn't even eat it all. I certainly would not order it again.

The Caesars salad was also mediocre. It just seemed lifeless, like maybe the lettuce was poured out of a bag and a few croutons thrown in. I would not want it again, and I love Caesar salad.

Which leaves one last course: the dessert. We got the "big cookie" with ice cream. While it had a good flavor, it was held back by its execution. It was MUCH too hard. I could barely split it with my fork... every bite took a LOT of work to break off. I think maybe it was baked for too long. It should have been warm... hot enough to melt the ice cream on top, or at least soften it up a little. But it was room temp, and the ice cream too hard and cold. I could have made this much better at home. That's the opposite of what you should be thinking at a restaurant.

The mediocre food was redeemed by the hip ambience inside. It simply looked and felt like a fun place to be.

What else was good was the service. Our server Dylan was great. Prompt, friendly, attentive... great asset to the team there.

I wouldn't mind returning. I'd choose completely different items, and come when they are busier. Hopefully that's when the food is...
