First off, there was really nothing wrong with the food. It was tasty, as it should be. There was nothing to really distinguish it from any other sandwich shop, but it certainly wasn't bad. The place itself was clean, so I had no problem with that.
The employees certainly could have done a better job. Maybe I got there at the wrong time - it was after lunch, and maybe they'd been having a rough go of it. Still, there seemed to be no attempt at all to be pleasant or welcoming. No sooner had I walked in the door than the guy that takes the orders just starts rapidly firing off questions at me - despite the fact that I'm clearly looking over the menu and trying to decide what to order. I ordered my lunch then made my way toward the cash register, having to walk around another guy who was stocking the shelves with bags of potato chips in the process. This guy just looked at me, and made no effort to move or even acknowledge my existence, despite the fact that he was blocking 3/4 of the aisle and I had to make my way around him somehow.
The guy at the register simply barked the total of my order at me, then literally snatched the money out of my hand when I went to hand it to him. After pretty much shoving my change back at me, he just walked away.
As I said, maybe it was just a really bad day. But sandwich shops are everywhere, and experiences like this sure don't make me want to go back...
Read moreI have always loved Penn Station. After moving to Dallas, where there are no locations, I make it a point to get a Penn Station sandwich every time I visit central Illinois. Unfortunately, today’s experience was extremely disappointing.
I went in and ordered a Philly Cheesesteak, asking for everything except pizza sauce—just like I always do. Instead of simply taking the order, the employee ( his name was Eagan) kept repeatedly questioning me in an impatient, condescending tone: “Do you want this? Do you want that?” I clarified again: everything but pizza sauce.
Not only was he rude and dismissive, but when I explained that this is how I always order my sandwich with no issues, he responded in a nasty, arrogant tone, telling me, “Nothing comes on that sandwich but cheese and meat—that’s why I’m asking.”
I would have walked out if I didn’t love Penn Station sandwiches so much. That said, after today’s experience, I will never return to this location. Customer service matters, and today it was completely...
Read moreSafety should be first in times like this. I went in today and one girl had a mask around her neck and the other girl wouldn't wear a mask at all. She was putting raw meat in a little bowl and dropping it on the counter and when she made the next bowl with turkey she dropped the turkey right where she had dropped raw meat GROSS! UNSANITARY CONDITIONS and unsafe in corona virus times.
Decided to give Penn station another try the staff was great this time it was cleaner. The problem that I have is that they raise their prices considerably and the sandwiches are extremely small I paid $28 for two sandwiches and they’re really really small compared to what they used to be so with the inflation they’ve raised their prices and given you smaller sandwiches and putting more money in their pocket. I won’t be going back to Penn station ever again this was the last time for sure....
