Good prices, coffee is about average, but I gave 5 stars because Anchor Room has some of the nicest folks I’ve met in a small business. I’m not a religious person—in fact religious establishments often make me uncomfortable—but I decided to give Anchor Room and chance because I liked their mission statement and not-for-profit status. I arrived to find a gentleman asking for a free cup of coffee as he was struggling lately with homelessness. A gentleman employee listened to his story intently and without judgement or interruption, and bought this man a coffee for him. I ended up buying him some breakfast as well, and when I told another employee to give it to him she looked about on the verge of tears. It seems like homeless folks are so constantly, purposefully ignored and their needs unmet in this city, especially by white St. Louisans. But this seems like a place where black and white folks are comfortable and welcome to ask for help, and can be confident they will receive it. I am proud to have this small business here to aid everyone, even in the smallest ways, whether part of the church or not. There was absolutely no evangelizing in the slightest, if that’s something that might keep you away. If it wasn’t attached to a church or didn’t have a small cross in the dining area you’d never know they were a Christian business. They also have stickers and signs that indicate LGBT+ friendliness, and books...
Read moreI sat down at the vintage Knabe grand piano and played. It is an amazing instrument. It was one of the best pianos on the market when it was new. It needs a little work to restore it to like-new condition. I'm a professional piano technician and tuner with three years training in piano rebuilding and antique piano restoration. I would gladly do the work it needs if someone will order the replacement parts it is missing. All it needs to be restored would be to order the right support struts for the pedal lyre and secure it tightly to the underside of the keybed. With that done it will be as good as new. It was a $6,750 piano when it was new. Restored it would be worth $2,600. They don't know how valuable a...
Read moreThis was my first visit to the Anchor Room. As a coffee “nut” I found the Salted Caramel Latte to be amazing. The flavors were sharp and crisp. The Breakfast Burritos, sausage and bacon, had the flavor of we'll made homemade burritos, with quality sausage and bacon cooked perfectly with a wonderful salsa that is just the right amount of spices for a breakfast, or even for dipping chips. There is an outstanding buttery to the preparation of the eggs and the tortillas. The Prices are more than. Far more than just a grab and go coffee shop.
This is five star all around, with a quaint, comfortable and relaxing...
