Steeped in local history and immortalized in the film "White Palace," White Knight Diner offers a nostalgic charm for downtown St. Louis residents and visitors alike. Conveniently located two blocks from both Union Station and the City SC stadium, the diner serves breakfast and lunch, catering to both morning crowds and lunchtime needs.
The menu boasts a classic diner repertoire, featuring a wide selection of burgers and sandwiches available all day. Diners can choose to order à la carte or opt for a combo that includes fries and a drink. For breakfast enthusiasts, White Knight offers omelets and their signature "slinger," a local favorite combining eggs, hash browns, chili, and a patty.
While the food quality leans towards classic diner fare – familiar and satisfying, not aiming for culinary fireworks – it hits the spot for those seeking a comforting and no-frills meal. The diner's true strength lies in its atmosphere and local appeal. Perhaps it's the friendly service, the red vinyl booths, or the walls adorned with historical memorabilia, but White Knight Diner exudes a warmth that draws in patrons.
However, a few things to consider: Keep in mind that White Knight Diner is a cash-only establishment and closes its doors around 1:30 pm. This might not be ideal for those seeking a late-afternoon meal or those who prefer the convenience of credit card payments.
Overall, White Knight Diner offers a delightful slice of St. Louis diner culture. It's a perfect spot for a casual breakfast or lunch, particularly for those seeking a taste of local history and a...
Read moreI love having these guys just around the corner from me. I've only ever had their breakfast but they do a fantastic job. No frills, no Edison bulbs, no shiplap, no qr codes to scan for a menu, and frankly, I'm not even sure if they have a customer restroom. But if you want a bangin breakfast for less than ten bucks, this is your place!! My preferred order is as follows: order of biscuits and gravy, side of hash browns, side of two eggs. Biscuits -eggs - hash browns - gravy, all in layers. You've got yourself a country skillet of sorts and you'll have barely crossed ten bucks for it.
Note that they sell out of bacon EVERY day, so if you aren't there before ten, at the latest, forget it. No bacon for you. Regardless, everything I've ever had here has been good.
Seating is often limited (don't let the unassuming exterior fool you--they stay busy!) and I recommend ordering to-go.
I've never had success with them answering their phone, and I've never seen someone come in for a pickup order. The last time I was there and the phone was ringing off the hook, I heard one of the cooks/waitresses say that they would "start answering the phone around 11." Maybe that's it; they don't take pick-up orders for breakfast? Anyway, don't expect them to answer the...
Read moreI visited STL for a family vacation and came across this delight on Google. I didn't have any food here (I wasn't feeling too well), but the kiddo and the lady did. After seeing their food, I was contemplating about eating and dealing with the consequences later. Lol. The food looked so good. Both the kiddo and the lady said it was absolutely delicious and would definitely stop back in once we come back to STL! So the next time we are back, we are stopping in.
While waiting for the food, you could most definitely tell that the locals knew that this place was terrific! The ladies that work there know their customers!
