Let's get into this restaurant review.
One of my dearest friends is a transplant from Connecticut and fussed about not being able to find quality pizza that reminds them of home. So, as his foodie bestie and also transplant I made it my mission to find him something he can call home away from home. This beautiful place is listed as Missouri's #1 pizza restaurant for the style we were looking for.
To start, there were so many pretty ladies and handsome men there when we went. So, for anyone single looking to mingle or anyone looking for a hot date night spot, this is it for sure.
Next, we chose outdoor seating. As you can see from the pictures, the natural lighting was perfect and the weather was just right. I really wanted this day to be special for him since he missed his homestyle pizza so much.
We ordered 2 appetizers; garlic knots and the deep-fried risotto balls. Yep, I totally forgot to write down the name of the actual dish hehe. But when you go, you'll get your chance to scan the QR code and check out the menu for yourself.
The appetizers were HEAVEN!!!! A good amount of herbs with a small kick of spice. So earthy and rich, I have to get these again and take them home with me. That sauce, uuuuh divine, reminds me of the tomato sauce I make at home. So many Italian restaurants in the area lighten the flavors, but this was a mouth gasm.
For the pizzas, I was surprised to see that this was the only Italian place where I had so many options. They have vegan, vegetarian, and meat lovers all on one menu. And may I add that they respect the dietary restrictions but did not lose out on the flavors.
I promise you I will be going back here because finding quality vegan pizza or vegetarian pizza that doesn't leave you hungry and feeling disappointed has never happened until I came here.
My friend is a meat lover and will try anything at least once. So, we ordered from the vegetarian menu and shared it. Yeah, he had no complaints 😏 😉 and he is extremely picky about his pizza.
So, if you have a group of friends with mixed dietary needs, you're gonna wanna give this place a try. They have so many regulars here, and they remember you. I noticed the vibes, and you don't wanna miss this.
Whether it's coming to St Louis for a visit, moving from another state, or being a local and just wanting good Italian cuisine, you have to come here. I haven't been to a better place for Italian flavors in the entire Metropolitan area, and as you can see from my reviews, I get around hehe.
Well loves, that's the end of this review. Thank you for reading it, and I hope to see your likes and follows so we can stay in touch. Hugs and kisses. See...
Read moreWe were visiting STL for the weekend and had a long drive to get here. A group of 8 with 4 children total. Us, and one other family. We saw this place online and thought a pizza place is usually a good call for accommodating families. We love to support the locally owned restaurants everywhere we go. The creative flavor combos on the menu had us salivating before we got there. We were not greeted or acknowledge when we walked up to the host (no big deal) this happens sometimes. We were told it would be an hour wait which is no problem and completely understandable for a restaurant on a weekend. Having worked in the food industry, I always give restaurants the benefit of the doubt. (However, looking back, it did seem odd since they did not appear very busy and we were the only ones waiting.) We decided we didn't want to wait an hour since it was already starting to get late and we had children. We left the host counter and began talking amongst our group about what to do. We were considering going somewhere else but with it getting late we knew we would end up in a similar or worse scenario. Then we started to consider splitting our group of 8, into 2 groups of 4, since we were 2 families it made sense. It's a win win. We get to eat sooner and the restaurant would get our service. Unbeknownst to us, the host had been listening in on our conversation and interrupted us with a very irritated tone and told us that we couldn't split into 2 groups because we came in as one group. Confused, I asked if the host could explain. They said that it was their policy. I asked if the host could explain the purpose of that policy and of course they could not. After they realized they couldn't actually explain their policy, the host said they would split us up but it would still be well over 30 min and probably closer to an hour anyway. Even though when we were looking at the app it showed a 17 min wait for a group of 4 and showed that we were the next customer on the list (30 minutes would have been fine by the way. Maybe the app was incorrect.) It was pretty easy to realize that the host was only trying to prove a point and to my best guess, irritated that we showed up as a group of 8 without a reservation. Very disappointing to be treated with such indignity at the type of restaurant which we very much enjoy supporting. The wait was completely understandable. The rude behavior from the host was not. We left. Went to Chava's down the road. There was a long wait for an 8 top so we asked if they could split us up into 2 groups. They said of course and sat us...
Read moreMy wife and I ate a traditional margherita pizza the other night from Pizzeoli. It was delicious. Neopolitan pizza is a completely different style of pizza, so you have to keep that in mind when you go. It is not a cheese-and-grease soaked anvil that sits in your stomach the rest of the day--it is much lighter and leaves you feeling satisfied, not stuffed.
The good: The dough was delicious. I thought it had good structure and a good chew. The char was great too. As we left Soulard it was the char taste that lingered in our mouths. The sauce was traditional--Neopolitan pizzas use a very minimalist sauce comprised of not much more than tomatoes from the San Marzano valley--and I thought it tasted great. The cheese held up well in the oven--I think I would've liked to see it melt a little more, though. The fresh basil was a great addition and added a great taste.
A couple things that I thought could be improved-upon: Both my wife and I left feeling that the pizza was indeed delicious and a fair value, but we thought that it was lacking something. I think that something is salt--I think just a little bit of salt would have really brought the flavors out a lot. Perhaps the cheese that he is using isn't quite salty enough--I'm not sure. I do not know if olive oil was drizzled over the pizza, but I think that could have made it a little better.
Overall, I thought Pizzeoli is a great little place. Having never been to Naples, I can't attest to the authenticity, but I thought it tasted good and from what I know about Neopolitan pizza, it seemed to hold true to the "rules." I would recommend the trip, especially if you haven't experienced the...
