There are some experiences that warrant a lengthy review, because a simple 5 star rating doesn’t convey the experience thoroughly. I have been searching for a Mission BBQ ever since we experienced one in Fort Belvoir, VA and located one in St Matthew’s KY. A search during an occasional sweep of BBQ locations, and realized there were two near us- currently stationed at Fort Knox, KY. (Active Army). During our lunch, my family and I enjoyed an amazing lunch. Brisket reminded us from home (Texas) and hit the spot. Not only was the food amazing, but the atmosphere and personnel. While admiring the military and first responder memorabilia on the walls, my eye struck a couple coin cases and one corner appeared to be in need of a filler to finish the collection. I told my wife that the experience was so amazing that I would extend management a coin due to their amazing team and establishment. I was introduced to Laura and Adam Lee, management. And let me tell you, these two have customer service to a science. I felt like we have been friends and they treated you like family. Like the ones you call because you want to (smile). I explained that I wanted to extend my gratitude with a coin and request to fill that gap in the box. Laura and Adam were eager to and allowed our family to become true friends. I was blown away. Very professional and friendly; like we’ve known each other this whole time. This is a true definition of customer service and family-like establishment. Hands down, this is where I would recommend to all my family and friends. We will be back and will advocate for this location to anyone and everyone asking for a recommended restaurant. Thank you again. MSG Philip...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I ate here on Sunday 4/15/18 during the early dinner shift. The food was incredibly delicious and generous for the price. The highlight of my visit was the service from everyone I encountered. The cashier was helpful enough to come from behind the counter and point out the menu. The expo shared with us information about their in house smokers and other details with enthusiasm. Capping off the wonderful experience, was the dining room attendant, a fifteen year old young man who clearly has been trained incredibly well. He waited on my girlfriend and I hand and foot better than most table service restaurants. My only suggestion would be to drop the country music only dining room policy. It may behoove the business, in an effort to be inclusive of all diners, to round robin several different American genres. Rural America does not have a monopoly on patriotism and respect for veterans and I find it subtly condescending that when developing a motif for a restaurant that this would be a suitable parring without consideration for diversity. I digress however, for $35 dollars this is good food and it appears to be a good place to...
Read moreMission barbecue is a really great place to get your pulled pork, chicken and they have the best brisket I have had since my mother made it. You can order a juicy half-and-half or dry. They have really great sides and they truly honor military and first responders. Their food is made up ahead of time each day and you get your order very shortly after you order it. Their walls are covered with pictures of military personnel from world war one on. You could spend more than an hour just looking at the pictures that they have hanging, and I did just that. It is a truly enjoyable experience, culinarily and historically.
Oh, by the way, their regional manager caught me looking over every picture they had on the wall and she ended offering me two free sandwich coupons for taking my time to honor those pictured who have served. I could go on and on, but the point is you need to try it for yourself as it is a very unique experience. And don’t forget to thank these employees for their service.
They also have amazing green beans which are not...
