Service is good and the staff is nice. I had the pho with brisket. They served it all together, like noodles and meat already in broth, which was strange, but that’s fine. Honestly It was just okay. The broth tasted watered down compared to any Vietnamese places I had up in Washington or down in Mills 50 in Orlando. It had an alright profile, it was just pretty weak and bland. The side veggies were not very fresh and looked like they were a few days old, they added some texture and did the job though. I dressed it up with some chili sauce and Hosin and it worked fine and ultimately filled me up.
I was able to try an egg roll as that someone else at the table also got an order. The egg roll was pretty good, but ultimately nothing special.
I know there are some other Vietnamese places in town which I have not yet tried. Idk how this compares to them. Maybe it was an off night, we were in on a Wednesday and it wasn’t busy at all. I’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt because like I said, real friendly folks. But the food just wasn’t that good. I really love Pho, lived off the stuff for years when I lived in the PNW and I’ve had it in varying styles and quality. But this was disappointing. It was Pho, so I still ate it and liked it, but I wouldn’t take someone here as an introduction to the dish or Vietnamese food in general. It just...
Read moreWe'd never had pho before, so we weren't sure what to expect. I had the #1 pho, and my wife had the vegetable and tofu pho in vegetable broth. Both of us enjoyed it very much and we will be back.
My pho had a nice clear broth. I tried all of the sides (Thai basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, jalapeno slices, and a bit of lime juice) in mine, and it was fantastic, but I also added just a dash of soy which made the already good broth really pop.
The portion sizes are large. I'm a healthy eater, and the regular size was all that I could manage today. The large only costs about a dollar more, but there's no way I could have finished that.
One of the women who worked the counter made rounds with all of the customers to see how we enjoyed it. The service is counter-table. You order at the counter, receive a numbered table flag and they bring it to you. We dined in, but I did notice that there's a fifty cent up-charge for carryout listed on the menu. I assume this is because of...
Read moreI’ve been a regular at Pho Phi before and loved their eye round beef pho, but I’ve got to say that my recent experience trying to do a phone order for takeout was disappointing to say the least.
The owner, at least from what they said on the phone, was hostile when asking if I could do an order for takeout. They said that it was a business and proceeded to hang up. Perplexed, I took a few minutes to call back and clarify that I was indeed calling Pho Phi and they answered back in an angry tone asking me if I was going to order to which I said yes, but I immediately decided not to after being spoken to in an unreasonable way.
Honestly, while I’ve enjoyed the business I’ve received in times past from the folks in the front who always are cheerful and polite, I don’t think I’ll be offering my patronage again after...
