Just coming from the mountain and my boyfriend and I were famished. Easter Sunday needed to involve a great meal so as we were heading home we noticed and saw Ol’ Skool Flava were open and decided to give them a try.
Small Ma and Pa establishment located about 5 minutes from Stone Mountain park sitting diagonally across in a strip center from the German Pretzel place. Walking in, it’s clean and you’re nicely greeted by the staff. Being our first time we had questions about the menu and how things worked. Nothing went unanswered and ordering was simple. We grabbed a table and waited less than 20minutes for our meals to come out. While waiting, washed my hands in their CUSTOMER ONLY restroom which was clean. There is also a TV that you can watch while dining in.
Let’s start with the pricing: very affordable and they give you your moneys worth! And we all know with how the economy is now that is very much appreciated!!! Portion sizes were great! You are definitely given enough to finish if you have a big appetite and leave full or have something to take home if you are the type to get full quicker.
Sundays have a special menu and this Sunday we saw that Oxtails and rice was featured!! ☺️. You pick a Sunday item PLUS 2 sides, talk about FULL!! So I opted for the Ox tails and rice with Mac n Cheese and Mustard/Turnip greens 😋. My boyfriend had the same but he opted for the Mac n Cheese and Potato Salad (long time family recipe) for his sides.
We grabbed some beverages when our meals came out and that’s all she wrote lol. Y’all know the excitement of some good food when you start humming out of nowhere and doing a little dance in your seat 😂 . That was me!!
About the food though: DELICIOUS 🤤, well seasoned. Greens were cooked right, tender and seasoned just right. I might get a double serving next time. I am a Mac n cheese connoisseur and the Mac was really good, creamy and had a good cheddar flavor. Ox tails were tail’n honey, falling off the bone smothered in a robust gravy on a bed of white rice. The meal does come with a roll so you can SOP up the juices, but I was so dang full I didn’t even make it to the roll 😆. My boyfriend said the potato salad SLAPS aka is 🔥.
Take a look at the before and after photos and make sure you go visit these nice ppl and show a local business some support; you most definitely...
Read moreThis was my first time coming here. I reallyy wanted to like this place, but in my honest opinion all of my food was very bland and had no seasoning to my liking. I ended up adding seasoning (salt) to my food when I got back, and I rarely do that, at the least I always add hot sauce though lol.
I had the soul food plate, fried chicken, mac n cheese and collard greens. All of it was underwhelming and I really was expecting to taste some added seasonings and flavors. Nothing over the top, but just some great home cooked soul food taste. But, I was disappointed. Mac n cheese, very bland, barely had taste. The greens tasted fresh but no flavor. The chicken tasted fresh also, just no flavor.
They service was nice and they have a warm, welcoming, home-like demeanor, but I wasn't impressed by the food at all.
Edit: To the review response from the owner, I came on a sunday about 2 weeks ago. And in the same way that when you visit a place and have memorable experiences, whether good or bad, you still remember. I wrote this review when I had the time to write it. I post my honest opinions and experiences. To be honest, this response from you the owner comes off very unprofessional. Regardless of when the review was written, it is still my experience and...
Read moreThis place was the first stop of my incredible birthday weekend of 2018 in Atlanta!!! One of the co-owners, Damoni Hall Dickerson, is a fixture of the Atlanta entertainment scene and the entertainment scene in the United States. I was very familiar with him and follow him on social media. This place hasn’t been open long before I was able to check it out. I said to myself whenever I make my next trip to Atlanta this place would be one of the stops!!! They serve a variety of food like wings, burgers, and on Sundays they offer soul food. It’s a one meat and two sides deal. I dined on a Sunday, so this is what I had. I ordered the oxtails with rice and gravy, macaroni and cheese, cabbage, and freshly brewed and bottled sweet tea. I hadn’t had oxtails in a long time and these were good, so was everything else. I want to come on Tuesdays, which is Mojo Tuesdays. The mojo consists of many vegetables and a grill meat. This is a healthy alternative to all the fried and fatty foods. Both of the owners were very pleasurable and friendly. One cooked the food while the other one manned the front of the restaurant. I have nothing but great things to say about this restaurant, I will check them out again when...
