Amato's Xpress — Restaurant in Stowe

This may not be immediately apparent when you check their website, but this is a counter within a gas station run by a high school dropout. Even with our expectations now significantly lowered, the food was terrible. The pizza was cafeteria food heated in a toy pizza oven. The sandwich bread was disgusting. Too bad, because the sandwiches were only minimally filled with cold cuts and cheese, meaning they're grossly overpriced. The "cook" looked completely clueless, got the order half wrong, didn't know what's in the sandwiches he's making, and admitted himself that he's bad at making sandwiches. He's not good at making pizzas either. I don't get how anyone could rate this place more than one star. Stop to fill up your tank if you must but leave as...

Waited 40 minutes while two employees slowly and sloppily made 5 sandwiches for my family and 1 “pizza”; all 5 sandwiches ended up having incomplete ingredients (ex. no cheese or sauce on the chicken parm, less than half the normal amount of meat on all the subs). The pizza tasted worse than cheap microwave frozen pizza. Amato’s proper is normally 5 out of 5 stars (I’ve been hundreds of times over the last 30 years) but this gas station counter is far below their normal standards. It started out like any other night. 5 dudes going to get subs at a gas station because everywhere else closes at 6. When you walk in amatos you know you’re going to get the sandwich you deserve. A sweaty wrap made my a sweaty man. Sure it smells bad it doesn’t taste good either but you pulled into a gas station for a sub. I’m sure you are sweaty and smell bad too.
