NO TASTE SAMPLES! My sons and I were in Stowe this week on a very hot Monday afternoon, and very much looking forward to some homemade ice cream to beat the heat. We found Stowe Sweets online, walked in, and were impressed with the many flavor offerings. Sadly, that's where the enjoyment ended. While I usually enjoy hard ice cream, I saw a dark raspberry hard yogurt. It looked and sounded enticing, so I asked the staff (an older gentleman and a younger woman) if I could have a small sample before buying a large cup. To my surprise, the man said, "No, we won't offer samples." I thought he was kidding. With another request on my part, I learned that there was no joke in his answer. "It's because of COVID", as he pointed to a small sign on the wall. What in the world does COVID have to do with putting a half-teaspoon of ice cream (or yogurt) on a little throw-away wooden spoon? I can't see any safety risk there. As I persisted in my request with the gentleman, he dug in deeper with his adamant response: no samples to customers. I am nearly 60 years old, and have been enjoying ice cream at all sorts of shops throughout that lifetime. Never, and I mean NEVER, have I had a shop flat-out refuse a request for a small taste sample. I cannot see the business logic here. And with that, I grabbed my sons and left the shop without any ice cream purchase. And I am glad I did. I will not do business with such a short-sighted establishment. For the "loss" of the expense of a half-teaspoon of yogurt and a 2-cent throw-away wooden spoon, the shop lost my $25 to $30 worth of business. Be forewarned, people: I urge you to take your tasty palette elsewhere, and sample at will in a much more logical ice cream establishment ... any other ice cream...

I think the owner is stingy. They don’t allow samples which is part of the enjoyment of getting ice cream. If you want to limit, fine. It’s short sighted to not allow samples. We are guests.

It’s overpriced, 2 scoops in a cup was $6.50. They don’t allow split singles. Not customer oriented. The 2 girls working the counter were very snotty.

All of this said the ice cream was good. I got pb cup and sea salt caramel. Wouldn’t be back due to service, price and...

My family was in search for a sweet ending to our day in Stowe and found just the spot at Stowe Sweets! Easily accessible from the main road, they have endless flavors available for cone or dish treats, including small portions for your puppy! Choose hard ice cream or get a creemee then load on the toppings (especially for a flurry). Quick and friendly service too! Check out their ice cream sandwiches, drinks and...

When we travel we like to find local ice cream and this was a fun stop to try something local. We tried their chocolate chip cookie dough in a waffle cone and a swirl of maple and black raspberry soft serve twist - which apparently is called a creemee in the local vernacular. Both were good. I’d imagine this place can get a bit busy in the summer months so plan accordingly!
