I don’t leave reviews very often, but I felt I needed to. I ordered delivery, so I’m gonna start with the positives. The corn pudding slapped, I’m so glad I got the pint because it’s my guilty pleasure. The portions were great, and I have plenty for later. Nothing was inedible. With that being said… there are way better BBQ places out there for a cheaper price point. The meats were a little dry— even the ribs. They only gave me one side of BBQ sauce for a 3 meat combo. I got the ribs, brisket and pulled pork… it just didn’t taste super fresh, like it had been sitting under a heating source or was reheated. The collard greens didn’t have a whole ton of flavor other than spice… spice is fine, I like some heat to collard greens, but I was expecting some beef flavor to come through from the brisket it’s supposedly cooked with. They too, were quite dry, no collard green juice at the bottom of the container, just a tiny bit of oil— again, that tells me that all of the juices evaporated from reheating or keeping under a heat source. The “potato salad” was sweet, but some people like it that way, so I’m not gonna be disappointed about that… my problem was that I thought it was mashed potatoes upon opening the container…. Which is essentially what it was with some chunks of potato here and there along with other veggies. The final thing that made me make a review was the Mac and cheese that literally tastes like nothing… just nothing. Boxed mac and cheese has more flavor, dude, come on. Mac and cheese is a BBQ staple… if you choose to do Mac and cheese as a BBQ spot, you gotta do it right. I’m fairly certain it’s just frozen Mac and cheese… but confused by the lack of flavor and the desire to add salt to something that should already be salty due to the cheese. I’m not sure why there are so many positive reviews, maybe I just caught this place on a bad day… but it’s Friday, you’d think they’d be on top of their game with the weekend approaching. This place isn’t terrible, but for the price, I expected way better quality food. I’m glad I got this food for half off. I’d skip this place...
Read moreMy family and I ordered for the first time from City Barbecue. The menu looked extremely promising, ordering was simple online, and we drove from Medina to get it. On our way to pick up the food, I received a phone call letting me know that they didn’t have one of the items that came with my plate, and they offered more brisket. The service was quick once we pulled curbside, and they said it was being prepared and on its way out. We waited no more than 5-7 minutes.
When we got home, I prepared everyone’s food. The kids' meals were great, and I got a chance to sample my son’s chicken, and the smokiness from the leg was divine. I prepared my husband’s food next. When I opened his container, I noticed there was barely any sauce on his ribs. I thought to myself, I’m happy I ordered the extra sauce on the side, and then he asked if there was the extra sauce. When I opened up my container, I saw the extra brisket they offered me, but I noticed it looked stiff and tough. As soon as I bit into it, it tasted exactly how it looked, stiff and tough. Medina isn’t a far drive from Strongsville, and from the time we pulled in curbside to notify them we were there, us getting our food and then home to eat, my food shouldn’t have been cold. I continued to eat, and my husband looked at me and said, what’s wrong, I told him, and he said, they probably gave you the last of what was there being that it was the end of the night. I started to look up the number to call and complain, but it was 8:30 pm. I could not finish my food so, I ate the sides fries and baked beans. I then moved on to dessert, peach cobbler, and it looks great, and I took a bite. The peach cobbler had a weird taste, and some of it was scorched and burned. I don’t know what was wrong with my food, no more than an hour later, I got extremely sick from what I ate.
Although we ordered close to the end of the night, we’re paying customers, and the food I received shouldn’t have been in that condition. I spent over $60 on our dinner. Hopefully, when I call in at 11 am to speak with someone, they’ll correct...
Read moreDISAPPOINTED! I'd like to think I'm a BBQ connoisseur. The lady and I have been to dozens of places in several states (mostly southern) and we make it a point to eat new BBQ. We love everything about it, to the point where it's considered an ART. With that said the 2nd best BBQ we've at was in South Carolina. The best BBQ is very close. Believe it or not can be found in Parma Ohio. Have not been to Texas yet though. I'd like to think a southern state would have the reins, but it blew my mind what we ate in Parma. I won't name the place and diminish the credibility of my review, by I will say it's a NON corporate chain.
City BBQ on the other hand is on the bottom of my list. Actually...scratch that, it's the worst on my list. It makes me sad. I don't want to give reviews like this, I hate doing so, I want to commend places on the great job live a majority of my reviews. I want top notch BBQ especially if you're charging me for it.
I ordered 3 meat 2 sides for $20. The "smoked sausage" looked and tasted like a precooked sausage from the grocery store that was burnt on the grill. I did 2 orders of brisket, no where on the menu says it is a premium charge and they didn't tell me until I paid. The brisket was cold, like less than room temp cold. It was garbage. Tried a rib from my buddy, and it was cold and dry. THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF DINNER RUSH MIND YOU. The only appetizing thing I ate was the Mac and cheese and fries. The kids chicken finger was the best looking piece of meat, I didn't taste it though. I am very disappointed to the point where I almost ALMOST asked for my money back, which I have never done in my life. It was that bad. Other than the not telling me of an upcharge for a meat that should be part of the 3 meat plate the service was pretty good. The atmosphere was decent and the place was clean.
I can't recommend this place and something need to happen or change for me to ever return. Find the diamond in the rough in your neighbor city. You'll thank me for saving you from this corporate excuse for BbQ and love the new...
