I wish that there were zero stars or negative stars - but since there isn't, I will settle for one star. I made an appointment last week for a shampoo, blow out and make up application - very simple - nothing complicated. I had no issues with the scheduling aspect or when I arrived at the salon. The consultation was pretty good - I remember being pretty impressed for the stylist being a student (she seemed very fresh and new). That's where my good impression ended. The student took me back to be shampooed. That ended up being the worst shampoo I've ever had. She pulled and yanked on my hair, tangled the ends (I have very long hair) by piling my hair in the bowl and doing who knows what - my hair has NEVER been so tangled in my life from a shampoo. She didn't even shampoo my scalp/roots at all. It seemed as though she had no clue how to shampoo - not a good sign since that's a really basic thing. Anyway - moving on to the conditioner...while that was sitting on my hair she proceeded to give me a terrible hand massage. I had no clue that my options were either a hand and arm massage or mini facial. If I had been asked, I would have chosen the mini facial - but since I wasn't asked I got the terrible hand massage. She rinsed the conditioner and we moved back to her chair. Meanwhile, there is absolutely no conversation- no questions...no small talk...nothing...just silence. She proceeded to try to comb my hair out after tangling it horribly. She began to rip and tear at my wet hair making zero attempt to be gentle or untangle the mess she made. Clumps of hair were coming out and my head was jerking back and i said "Ouch!" A few times - still nothing from this girl - she just kept ripping and tearing at my WET hair. I have really long hair and I understand very well that you lose hair every time you wash and brush - but this was clumps of hair being torn out of my scalp as well as broken off. It was clear she had no idea what she was doing and was in over her head with my hair. I'll fast forward to the end of the blow out. I had my hair pulled, broken off and torn out for an hour and a half. She walked away to get the make up - I looked in the mirror and was horrified...my hair was flat, roots were not clean and I had a massive headache. I couldn't take it anymore. I told her to forget the makeup since I had to hurry home to re wash my hair and try to blow it out myself since I had my engagement pictures later that day. A "supervisor" came over and offered to re wash my hair and try again...honestly I was afraid because if it was messed up again I would have to go to my engagement pictures not only with dirty hair, no make up and a massive headache. I'd rather go home and do it myself and take some ibuprofen to try to relax to enjoy myself later. I will never ever be back and truly expected more from Brown Aveda. I do understand this is a school but they really need to ensure students have a basic education before they see clients. Again, all I wanted was a shampoo, blowout and makeup application - nothing...
Read moreI went here today and left in tears. I'm always so happy to go to beauty schools to help give students valuable experience but this burned me too much to go back again. Aveda products are great and I will continue to use them, but never this salon. I went for a balayage and they assigned someone with little experience in color, she even told me she's barely practiced with it. I was very nervous after this but thought that the instructors would help out, knowing how inexperienced she was. I was very wrong. The instructor (Shaylene might be her name) was horribly rude. She made my stylist-in-training very nervous and spoke down to her the entire time, then went missing any time my stylist needed help. This process should have taken three hours at the most, I was there for five hours today. An hour of which my head was yanked back in the sink getting ice cold water rinsed through it. She did not wash my scalp at all, and ripped out my hair the entire time. I was not offered any moisturizing options that they're supposed to, nor a facial or hand massage. They were getting near close and the instructor sent someone to "help" my stylist, so for a short time I had two students ripping a brush through my wet and over-bleached and fragile hair until finally my original girl asked the other to leave as she didn't need help. The blow drying was miserable, my hair was still damp at the end but I was so over it I told her to skip the style she was supposed to do. The instructor was finally located to do the final check and asked how it was, and I told her how disappointed I was (in her, mostly). I will not be returning to have this fixed, I'd rather pay a professional. My scalp is in terrible pain and my hair looks and feels awful. If there was a way to give a 0 star rating...
Read moreExtremely unprofessional, disrespectful and unsafe environment. Most terrible salon experience ever. I agree with most reviewers, if there was a NO STAR review, would choose that any day. Took EIGHT hours for a job that looked terrible, student did not even know how to wash hair, I was dripping wet in my clothes and student got dye in my eyes. She had NO KNOWLEDGE about first aid. Luckily being a doctor, I could take care of myself. You could easily have corneal abrasions and compromised vision for life and they have a couldn't-care-less attitude. Student threw a fit at me at the end of 8 hours when I was wet with a red eye and bad hair color; she asked me to fill her evaluation mid way through hair drying I refused to fill it and she actually refused to dry my hair! And then went and made jokes at me with other student-friends of hers. Educators thought of that as acceptable behavior. Not to mention, none of them knew how to mix colors or get anything right. They are bad at work and lack basic humanity I have been getting my hair highlighted since the last 2 years, never took more than 45 minutes to complete the job and make me happy at my regular NYC salon. Moved to Cleveland recently, this salon was close to my house, products looked fancy and I thought it's good to help students in training. This is an unsafe and insulting environment. I left physically crying and no one felt even sorry. Not to mention the amount of money they made me pay for their unprofessional, undesirable and dangerous service. I am so appalled, hurt and upset. Cleveland is a nice city and people like them donot deserve to work here or hurt clients at a so called 'salon'. Not ONLY are they bad at work; they lack...
