I do not recommend this place. I went there today with a group of golf gals. There was a lady behind the bar named Mary, I've since found out from looking at their website, she is the owner. She couldn't have been more unfriendly. She never cracked a smile once for the first hour we were there. The store became extremely warm and when one of our gals asked if it was possible to lower the temperature she scowled and said it's already 68, what do you want me to do, lower it to 50? That was after she had slammed her wine opener on the bar. After that she heard some of us discussing her poor behavior and she caught her snap and tried to become all cheerful but it was too late, she had now ruined our experience and afternoon there and we just wanted to get out!! The bar is also very 80's 90's in decor, it needs a good update, and the wine is not good at all. Save your money and go to the nicer wine bars like Aviary where your money and presence are much more appreciated. It baffles me why there are so many good reviews here. I guess a lot of these people don't go to good winery's/vineyards. If you read the reviews on yelp they are...
Read moreI could not have had a worse experience. Our golf group had a private event here. The woman behind the bar — perhaps the owner with short blonde hair — could not have been more rude.
When I asked for a glass of wine (we had five tastings), she leaned forward with a scrunched up face full of irritation and gave me the same tasting I’d just had. I knew it but dared not say anything.
Later after a couple of women complained about the heat, I asked if they could turn down the AC a bit. (It was downright warm in there, and I’m the one that’s always cold.) The same woman said with stunning anger, “I have it set to 68! What do you want — 50 degrees?” We were appalled.
This place is slovenly, the wines are terrible (wrapped in their own label), and worst of all, the staff is incredibly rude. Stay away!
I wouldn’t be surprised if she left an angry response.
UPDATE: I see the owner left a response asking how they could improve. Really? Start with actually caring about the people who...
Read moreACW is my go-to place for locally made wines and cordials. Mary makes all the wines personally and has over 60 different kinds of wines. You can try each one, enjoy a flight of 6 for a reasonable price and get all the info on each one from Mary. She even has a wine club where you get a red and a white wine every other month with personalized labeling for personal or business advertising for gift-giving.
Of course there are all things wine available too. So it's really fun to have one-stop-shopping in her storefront in Sunset Valley!
I think my all-time fave wine, only really available during the holidays is her Cranberry Chianti. Fabulous!
She is one of the very few truly local wine companies in Austin and we love to shop local. Give Austin Custom Winery a try. I think you will find it a refreshing alternative in a...
