Excellent Food and Service! You’ve got to come try it and will enjoy it! We will be coming back. Ask for Mohammed as your server...he’s super nice, patient and informative about South Indian Cuisine. I enjoyed eating there and gaining some new education about South Indian food.
I’m kinda new to South Indian food and Mohammad was very helpful in answering all the questions we had about the different dishes, spices and ingredients. He was very nice and accommodating to anything we wanted to know and patient. I loved the Decour because it was very traditional to South Indian culture and the moment you walk in the door you’re engulfed by all the sights and smells of the Indian culture.
The outside of the building looks really neat as if you’re walking into a brick silo attached to a stone house. We stayed at the hotel next-door at the holiday in express and love the convenience of being able to go to dollars and eat after a beautiful day of hiking and then be able to literally drive through the parking lot connected to our hotel parking lot as well. We could’ve literally walked there very easily and may do that another day during our business trip.
I loved ordering the coned dosa with the different dipping sauces. That was such a cool cultural experience and the presentation of the towering coned dosa is so fun and cool to eat. I wish we didn’t have to flatten it to take it to go since neither one of us could finish it. One order of the Coned Dosa is plenty to share for two or three people if you are ordering other dishes.
We also ordered the Mixed Sizzling Platter and it was very good too. I love how it comes out hot and sizzling. However, for my taste I felt like the shrimp was overly salty and had a slight pungent taste to it. Not sure if that was the freshest seafood, but the grilled chicken tandoori and grilled Mutton were perfect.
I got to try the rose milk for the first time and it really did have that hint and flavor of rose petals which was really cool. It really is exactly as it sounds rose milk! And it also comes out pretty in pink.
We will be...
Read moreThis restaurant served the spoilt food to us. This happened on our last trip to Austin. We took our parents with us and visited this place. The first sight of it was not right. On a Saturday morning breakfast there's literally no one at the restaurant that's very surprising. Second the lady who received us doesn't look friendly. Third the place doesn't look like a restaurant inside. Nothing was organized properly. We went to have a good south Indian breakfast. Ordered idly, vada Dosa and chole batura. Anyone who knows south Indian cuisine can understand what can go wrong with idly. But surprisingly for the first time I had a very bad idly(it must have been a frozen idly or the batter was spoilt or overly fermented). This is the case with idly. Then vada batter was super spoiled and was tasting sour. The chutneys and sambhar everything was spoilt. My mother sensed it and asked us not to eat anything. I complained to the lady who welcomed us. She took it back and gave the same spoilt sambhar. Dosa was equally bad. Chole Batura was only edible. I am really not exaggerating anything. I am taking this much time and writing this elaborated review so that the people who wants to give this restaurant a try will rethink. And the people who are really writing reviews please be hones on your reviews. This restaurant review is misleading. So the people like us who are non locals are falling for these stars. And finally we paid 100$ for the spoilt food came out with hungry stomachs and with a very bad experience with our aged parents and small kids. I never had such bad food ever. To the Owner --- taste is secondary at least try to serve fresh and...
Read moreOrdered 4 lunch combos online for me and 3 co-workers because delivery is free on orders over $30. My food was delivered an hour late. It's not the first time I've placed an order online with Nala's and had to wait longer than expected for delivery. One time, thinking maybe the issue was with delivery, I placed an order online for pick up. I arrived 15 minutes after my scheduled pick up time, had to wait nearly 10 minutes for someone in the restaurant to come up to the host stand, and when I explained that I was there to pick up my order, I was told it was being boxed up and would only be a few minutes. 10 minutes after that it was ready.
Oddly enough, a 4th co-worker of mine placed an order for pickup at Nala's today, for about 15 minutes prior to my delivery time, and he had to wait for 20 minutes for one plate. While waiting, a or so before getting his order, he saw my delivery driver come in and request my pickup, at which point they told the driver it would be 20 minutes.
It's a shame, most of the time the food is excellent, but this seems to happen more often than not. The first time I ate here, my lunch was delicious, but I was at my table for over an hour during my limited lunch break. I tried the online ordering because I thought I'd get in and out quicker.
On a side note, most of the food was good, but as others have recently noted, my saag paneer and everyone's dal was watery, making the food (or maybe I should call it soup) bland. I won't be going back anymore, 3 strikes and you're out. I recommend going to Tarka down the street. Their food is consistently ready on time or early, and...
