Junmai Station is a new Japanese takeaway spot in downtown Tampa at the bottom of the new Hyatt Place/Hyatt House. It is by the same duo that runs Ebisu Sushi Shack, so I expected good things. I wasn't disappointed! This eatery specializes in onigiri, which are scrumptious rice balls that are often in triangular shape and have various fillings. For my first visit, I got the shake (salted salmon $3.95) , shiso ume (shiso leaf & plum $3.50), tsukune (chicken meatball $4.25), and the rainbow (which is a whole plethora of ingredients $5.25). The shake and shiso ume were absolutely perfect! They were warm, delicious explosions of flavor in my mouth that were somehow so comforting. The shiso ume in particular, while the flavors were unfamiliar, was a real treat. Definitely try this one out if they have it! A selection of donburi (rice bowls) are also available, so I will try one of those next time. They only have a few seats at the window, so it's primarily a grab-and-go kind of place. I think this is a great addition to the...
Read moreI have eaten here 3 times since it opened. The food is always delicious! I could see the price pushing some off, but it's pretty much in line with the other Asian restaurants in the area. Below is everything i have tried
Spam & Egg Musubi - The spam is teriyaki glazed and the egg is a yellow patty, not like a fried egg. It made for a delicious handheld.
Ground Beef Onigiri- This was great, a little less meat than I would have liked. The meat has a sweet/salty teriyaki type glaze.
Chicken Meatball Onigiri - This one surprised me how good it was. It had to most meat compared to the others and the meatball was seasoned SO WELL.
Sour Plum Onigiri - This won was interesting. Not an everyday thing, but fun to try. The plum is very very tart, but it's supposed to be.
Beef Donburi - The beef and onions are DELICIOUS. Love it!
Seaweed Salad - Tasty! A little sweet with mostly sesame flavor a a teeny bit of heat from some red pepper flakes.
Miso Soup - Very good. Surprisingly good. Would eat this...
Read moreThe place is filthy. Fruit flies all over the place. A good washing of the facility would help alleviate that problem. There was some type of feces on the counter where my wife and i ate. When we got our Chicken Teriyaki Bowl after having an extremely salty Miso Soup there was a dead roach covered with Teriyaki Sauce. As i was bringing this to the owner's attention who refused to look at me SHE TOLD ME TO LEAVE IF I WERE UNHAPPY. Well we did. She is clearly the unhappy one. If this is connected in anyway to the Hyatt shame on them. I have no problem not going back to that establishment. I feel it my duty to warn my fellow...
