We are just visiting the area for a few days but after a long drive from Vegas, we wanted some Korean food.
We found Sura just by searching on Yelp. It was close and it was open, so we tried it.
So pleasantly surprised!
This place has legitimately solid and good Korean food.
The pork bulgogi was on point, perfect blend of spicy and the meat was tender. This was the portion offered for the "tofu soup and pot bulgogi" combo - not bad!
The galbi was the a la carte order. It's not a huge portion for the price but it was well seasoned, not too sweet (which I hate) and nicely cooked with good charring in few spots. Expensive but prices are high these days and this was good.
The tofu soup's flavor was great! For a regular mom and pop joint, I do not expect good soft tofu soup but this base was well done and the portion was more than ample for one person.
We also ordered fried dumplings -- and devoured those. They're perfectly fried, crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. Tastes homemade.
One tip to the owners of Sura: INCLUDE THE EGG WITH YOUR TOFU SOUP. Come on... that's a basic ingredient for soontofu soup. Don't skimp on that. If I hadn't already read reviews saying it's not included, I'd have taken issue with this last night.
When in the area, check out Sura. Good place! The prices are a bit high — $49.99 for “bossam” is a bit ludicrous — but for most of the other items, it’s not...
Read moreI recently moved to the area and was looking for a place to replace my previous Soondobu craving spot, Kaju Tofu in Garden Grove.
I arrived at 1pm on a Friday. Aside from myself there were a handful of tables occupied. The service is friendly and as in all quality Korean restaurants they provided banchan. While they looked a little dry they were delicious. The potatoes were a little darker than I'm used to but the taste was there.
I ordered the seafood Soondobu which was arrived not very long after ordering and came with a side of rice. Although, I was given the option of extra spicy I decided on regular spicy. The spice was not overpowering and complimented the soup nicely. In the future, I could stand to go a little spicier and get a little sweat going.
Currently, Kaju's same Tofu soup is around 14.99 and Sura's is 17.99. However, there's much more seafood that comes in Sura's offering than Kaju. To me, it's equal in value but a little closer to the expensive side.
In my opinion this is a firm 4.5. The only thing keeping it from being a true 5 is the price. If you're craving Korean food and don't want to drive up to any of the K-towns in OC or LA, this is the spot for you. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants quality...
Read moreI’ve been to Sura BBQ and I honestly had such a great experience the food was delicious, and the service was amazing! I don’t understand why someone would leave a bad review when the staff work so hard to serve customers with kindness, even when they’re short-staffed. The owner is incredibly nice and truly takes care of everyone who walks in the door. Some people complained about the smell, but come on it’s a Korean BBQ place, and the kitchen is part of the space, so of course you’re going to smell the food being cooked. That’s part of the experience, and it shows that everything is fresh and made right there. This business deserves support, not judgment. The team at Sura BBQ is doing their best every single day, and it shows. I will keep coming back and supporting them because they care, they cook great food, and they treat customers like family. If you’ve never been here, don’t let one bad review stop you come try it for yourself. You’ll see how hard they work and how good the food really is. 💯👏🍽️ 10 star for them...
