Brookside Deli — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

Love this place. Been coming here my whole life. It's one of the few establishments that hasn't closed. They must be doing something right. It's been owned and run by the same 3 people for over 20 years. Every time I go in there I always see either Frank or Barbara (2 of the owners) they are so friendly and ready to chat with everyone. (Even the annoying high school kids from down the street they have to deal with everyday) they have boars head products, all kinds of sides, daily breakfast and lunch specials. And of course student specials for the kids. Their sandwiches might be a little more money then some other deli but A) They give you ttttoooonnnsss meat on your sandwich (no filler items like thick tomatoes or tons of lettuce) B) everything is made fresh C) you can get exactly what you want and how you want it (i.e I like thin slices of tomatoes and so I ask and they do it!!) D) and everything is clean and fresh. I will never...

After many, many years of patronizing this delicatessen in Valley Stream and receiving wonderful service, I must say that I just had a terrible experience with an employee named Timmy. Without going into all the disturbing details, he basically accused me of opening food and refusing to buy it which is something I have never done nor would do in my life! After I tried to explain that I had simply changed my mind, he basically accused me of wasting his food and threw me out of the store. This was witnessed by the woman who works there who did not even try to mitigate the situation. I plan on returning to speak to the owner, as this type of behavior is not acceptable in the service industry. I would invite the owner to check the video tape to prove I did not do what Timmy adamantly accused...

Quick, easy, and exactly what I was looking for! I grabbed a delicious bacon, egg, and cheese on a plain bagel, and it totally hit the spot. The staff at Brookside Deli were super helpful and welcoming—great service all around.

Pro tip: if you’re craving an egg sandwich for breakfast, skip the confusion next door and come straight here. Unlike Magic Bagels, Brookside actually serves eggs. Go figure.
