I am not generally one who writes reviews for any type of business, however, I must express my deep disappointment in the service that I received most recently. I was incredibly disappointed with my experience at Ruth's Chris restaurant for my 30th birthday dinner. The entire evening was ruined by the terrible service and poor quality of the food. It seemed our family may have been paired with an employee who was still in training.
To start with, the waiter took the menu from my 80 year old grandmother as she was still perusing it to decide if she would like any other items to accompany her meal.
Furthermore, the food was not prepared properly as ordered. My meal was not cooked to the temperature that I had requested, and it was clear that the kitchen staff were not paying attention to the details. I ordered a ribeye steak Oscar style which would come with a ribeye topped with a crab cake, grilled asparagus and a particular sauce. The ribeye came out by itself without any of the additional that I paid for. I also ordered a lobster Mac and cheese which came out before my ribeye. The waitstaff told me they could make me they could bring the Oscar style out separately on a different platter, to which I disagreed. Oscar style is an extra that you add-on to be delivered on top of the rib-eye. After speaking with the waitstaff, he told his manager and the manager offered to make me a brand new steak with the Oscar style on top. After waiting 30-40 minutes for a new plate, I was left to eat my lobster Mac and cheese by itself. About 30-40 minutes later, the new steak arrived at which point I was no longer hungry.
To make matters worse, the staff were alerted about the fact that it was my birthday and decided to provide us with a birthday dessert (after they realized they’d messed up so far with my order). Much to my dismay, as I began to eat the birthday dessert, I found a bug (similar to that of a larva) crawling in my birthday dessert, which was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. It was clear that the hygiene standards at the restaurant were not up to par. I was able to capture the insect by video as it crawled across the dessert. Having alerted the waitstaff again about this second incident in less than an hour sitting time, the waiter then responded, “that’s crazy” and took the plate away. After about 20 minutes of being in disbelief, another assumedly manager, comes to the table to offer to pay for each person at the table to take home a dessert, on the house. At this point, we were greatly grieved and ready for the experience to be over.
Overall, I would give Ruth's Chris restaurant a 1-star review, and really less if there was an option for 0. I have been a patron at Ruth Chris for many years from celebratory dinners to business lunch meetings. The service was poor, the food was not prepared properly, and the hygiene standards were unacceptable. After spending over $500, and providing a nice tip in spite of, I expect a certain level of service, professionalism, and respect. I was and still remain extremely disappointed with my experience and could not in good faith recommend this...

Firstly, the dress code situation will always be controversial (you can thank FABOLOUS for this predicament). I’ve encountered firsthand seeing construction workers wearing their Local 79 hoodies covered with that day’s debris shown straight to the main dining area while other’s wearing Gucci hoodies get banished to the corner booth at the bar. The host and manager will always point to the dress code sign for their protection and if you don’t have the right “complexion for the protection” then unfortunately you’ll always be scrutinized when you walk in.
Secondly, this restaurant is dealing with a heavy identity crisis. On one page they’re advertising a $150 tomahawk steak and directly afterwards there’s a $60 full prix fixe menu. Which begs the question, what audience are you trying to market to? And if it’s the latter, then why are you enforcing a dress code?
Now on to my recent experience with Ruth Chris. While they updated their décor it looked to be under the sacrifice of service and food quality.
Food: Tomahawk and filet were both undercooked.
All steak plates did not come “sizzling”, which is a signature of the restaurant.
The quality of the meat has also gone downhill, while they advertise “prime” steak, you can easily confuse it for a lesser grade.
The cream spinach was soupy and watered down.
The cheesecake was undercooked, they did not chill it for the cake to solidify as the inside was runny.
Service: For a Saturday evening the display of service was truly amateur hour.
While the water was replenished, I had to ask repeatedly for any drink refills that came from the bar.
We asked for our tomahawk to be sliced which they forgot, the Matre’d sliced it table side with what seemed to be a dull blade and the final presentation looked awful.
No visit from the general manager, even though this was for a table of 7 for a special occasion.
The bussers asked if we were done with our meal, and we stated there were some leftover steaks we wanted to take home and instead of taking the food to the back for packaging they brought out boxes and bags for us to package.
Finally, and the reason why I decided to write this review, it took over 15+ minutes for our waiter to get us our check. I finally decided to go look for him just to find him chatting it up with his group of colleagues at the POS terminal.
And with the Chain being acquired by Darden Restaurants you can easily see that the food and quality are being shifted closer to Olive Garden then a real steakhouse.
So, if you want to say you spent $150 on a white tablecloth “steakhouse” that’s fine but if you want to get possibly profiled, eat poor quality steak and receive inadequate service I would save that $150 and just go to...

I am writing a review to express my deep disappointment and concern regarding a recent experience at the Garden City location of Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
As loyal customers and frequent guests—particularly for our annual private dining events and family dinners—my family and I have long chosen Ruth’s Chris for its exceptional service and food quality, with the Garden City location being a preferred choice due to its convenient proximity to our homes in Garden City and Lynbrook. Despite a few past disappointments at this specific location, we decided to give it another chance. Unfortunately, this most recent visit has made it clear that we will no longer be dining at the Garden City Ruth’s Chris.
Upon placing our reservation, we were immediately reminded of the business casual dress code—a policy we are very familiar with and have always respected. However, upon arrival, the hostess made an inappropriate and presumptive comment: “As long as they don’t have sweatpants on,” referring to a guest in our party who had not yet arrived. This comment was both unnecessary and offensive, and we strongly believe it was rooted in racial stereotyping against people of color.
When I respectfully pointed out that we are regular patrons and fully aware of the dress code, I asked why it was being repeatedly mentioned. The hostess replied, “I’m going to keep on reiterating it.” This tone and attitude were not only unprofessional but dismissive and disrespectful.
Unfortunately, the evening continued to decline. Our server failed to place my sister’s order with the rest of the table. As a result, she waited an additional 20–30 minutes after everyone else had received—and finished—their meals. When we asked if her meal would be compensated due to the server’s mistake, we were told no, with no apology, no empathy, and no concern.
What was meant to be a celebratory evening turned into an experience that felt exclusionary, discourteous, and entirely beneath the standards we’ve come to expect—not just from Ruth’s Chris, but from any establishment that claims to offer high-quality service and hospitality.
We have never encountered this level of disregard at any other Ruth’s Chris location, and this experience has left a lasting negative impression.
We expect and deserve better. What we experienced at the Garden City location was not simply poor service—it felt discriminatory and dismissive of our presence and dignity as...
