Although Catpurrccinoās takes excellent care of its rescues and the staff seems to love the cats, the owner (Jimmy) is extremely unprofessional and discriminatory. After making my 22 year old daughter wait FOR SIX MONTHS to adopt an emotional support cat, Jimmy arbitrarily decided that she was too young to care for a cat. In a bizarre āexplanatoryā email, Jimmy claimed that he wasnāt discriminating against her based on age and then wrote in the next sentence āI feel that a 21 year old person is too young to adopt on their ownā. Backstory - My daughter found a cat to adopt while on winter break from college in upstate NY. Jimmy was told that the cat would be brought to Geneseo but he didnāt say to either of us at the time that the distance was an issue. His only concern was that sheād be living with other college students who he seemed to think werenāt smart enough not to let the cat escape. Jimmy said he wanted to talk to her 5 roommates and her landlord, so she immediately provided their contact information. She returned to college without the cat because Jimmy didnāt call even one of her contacts within the next 2 weeks. He ignored her texts and emails for several more weeks and then (still without making a single call to her contacts) announced that sheād have to wait until after graduation to adopt. We later learned that the reason for his about-face was that he thought sheād be returning home in June to live with her parents even though that was never discussed (she actually had planned to do post-graduate studies at the University of Rochester). After continuing to ignore the majority of her texts and emails over the next few months, Jimmy revealed in May for the first time that he had previously agreed to the adoption because he thought she'd return to her parentsā home after graduation. When she protested, Jimmy raised his voice and stopped an inch short of calling her a liar because of his mistaken assumption regarding her post-graduation plans. In an attempt to justify his mistake, Jimmy claimed that she wasnāt really interested in the cat because she never visited it DURING A PANDEMIC and (also for the first time) claimed that it was a problem that she lived far away because he couldnāt conduct a home visit. The real issue was obviously her age because he said insulting things to her during the call like ādo you even know that a cat is a long commitment because they can live 15 years?ā Nevertheless, he led her to believe that he was still considering the adoption but then he ignored all of her messages FOR THE NEXT THREE WEEKS. Although he later claimed that he wasnāt ignoring her, he responded to the first email I sent within 4 hours. His responsive email was a testament to his unprofessionalism, and the speed with which he responded to me made it clear just how little respect he had for my daughter and how he had no qualms about arbitrarily changing the adoption rules. It now became a requirement that I sign the adoption papers and a problem that my daughter was moving out of her off-campus apartment into a more permanent residence with āonlyā two roommates. When she had 5 roommates, Jimmy allegedly worried that one of them might accidentally let the cat escape, but when she had only 2 he allegedly worried that a social cat would be lonely during the day while she worked. No matter what she did, he found fault with it. Bottom line ā my 22 year old daughter graduated from college with highest honors and despite the pandemic got a job with Americorps and a new apartment (that she offered to allow him to āvisitā via video) within a few short weeks but Jimmy still refused to allow her to adopt a cat because of his bias against young adults. He made her jump through hoops for months and then changed the conditions of the adoption each time she cleared a hoop. He made a faulty assumption and then penalized her for his mistake. He made adopting an emotional support cat nothing short of traumatic for my daughter and should leave the adoptions to somebody who isnāt biased and who knows what...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI don't know how else to say this, so I"ll just say it: Kevin Connors (the one negative review below) is disgruntled and is full of lies. I know this business well and have known them for some time.
Let's start with the fact that Kevin falsely claims that it costs $40 to visit the cafe, which is an obvious lie that can be confirmed by going to the Catpurrcinos website. A visit to the cafe is free (the front part where the food/beverage is served) and costs $14 to visit the cats. That cost, of course, goes to upkeep and care of the cats. Here's the truth: Kevin was rude to the staff and the owners from the beginning. Due to COVID, the only a limited number of people are permitted to be in the cafe at any given time. Kevin demanded to gain entrance despite this safety precaution. The cafe worked with him and worked to accommodate him given he had traveled some distance to visit.
Kevin demanded a one-on-one visit with the cat he wanted to adopt. This is not something that Catpurrcinos offersāit's a cat cafe where all of the cats are in a room together.
Kevin demanded that he be able to take home the cat he wanted the same day and claims that the manager promised him that. Also a lie. Catpurrcinos cares deeply about its cats and would NEVER make such an absurd promise. The Cafe thoroughly vets each prospective adopter and conducts a home visit prior to any cat leaving the cafe.
The cafe is immaculately clean and all of the cats are very well cared for. There is a vet office on site and when a cat does get sick (it's a large cat cafe, so they do occasionally get sick), the sick cat is taken to a different location to recover and not infect the other cats. I've been to this cafe many times. The liter boxes and crates are always clean and the cats are not sick.
Please disregard Kevin's review. He's clearly using his review as a weapon and is disgruntled because the cafe wouldn't give him a cat on the spot. I hope Google takes down his review and I hope that other cat adoption agencies are given his name because I question what is real intention is in adopting a pet... doesn't sound like hie cares much for the animals' wellbeing.
In short, Catpurrcinos is an amazing place and I wish I could visit there more often. I've adopted two cats from them and both have been amazing additions to my family. Please don't let one disgruntled review (that is full of lies) dissuade...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAbsolutely love it here, the food and drinks are great (recommend their lattes and grilled cheese sandwiches). They do sell pastries/ baked goods as well.
This is a cute spot that allows you to unwind and destress with the most adorable kittens and cats (that are available for adoption too). There are tons of toys to help start an interaction (bringing food inside will cause this too, always keep an eye on your stuff as they do climb the tables and you when food is around). There are kitty vision tv channels for them, scratching towers, a shy room for skittish cats, chairs and tables for humans.
It is on the pricey side, BUT, admission does go to the care and medical bills of the cats.
Also, make sure to check their website, they have fun events every once in a while!
Tip: bring cat treats from home if you please, the kitties will give you so much attention! Also, pay in advance from home to make an online reservation. This will guarantee entry.
The only negative I can really say that is more of a warning is that the place smells, it's very distinct. If you are sensitive to smells, stay back. It is very clean inside though, I do feel comfortable eating here. Staff is on top of everything. The other is that they do have fiv outbreaks, and some of them also have other life threatening illnesses, it's heartbreaking to see the cats you get attached to die or fall severely ill. But hey, this is a great safe haven for these babies.
Speaking of staff, they are knowledgeable of the cats, and love answering questions...there's also a book...
