If you’re looking for a culinary experience that will haunt your dreams, El Sol is the place for you. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by an ambiance that felt more like a neglected cafeteria than a lively Mexican eatery. The Cholula on display is proof that there is nothing authentic about this place, along with the Americans running it.
The service was painfully slow. It took forever for them to acknowledge us, and when they finally did, it felt like they were doing us a favor by taking our order. Speaking of the order, I was excited for some tacos but ended up with what can only be described as sad, soggy tortillas with an unidentifiable filling that resembled last week’s leftovers.
The salsa was a highlight, if you enjoy a watery concoction that barely alluded to the taste of tomatoes. And don’t get me started on the guacamole—it was more like guac-amo-why? All we could taste was disappointment.
In short, if you enjoy bland food, lackluster service, and an atmosphere that makes you contemplate your life choices, El Sol is for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and skip it. You’ll thank...
Read moreStopped in today for lunch and could not have been more impressed. The staff greeted us as we walked in with a warm welcome and were beyond friendly throughout our visit. Only a few tables available for dine in, but there was room for us and would have been happy getting it to go. As for the food, it was outstanding. Tons of flavor, fresh ingredients, great portion size, fair prices, and plenty of options. At first glance it may look like a small menu, but I would much rather have a small menu that is done well, then a large menu with sub par food. If they can stay consistent with everything I experienced today, this place is going to be busy as hell for a long time to come. 100% look forward to going back and highly recommend if you looking for fast satisfying meal.
Had the Sol Bowl with barbacoa, street corn, papas chorizo, and fresh toppings. Their house made cream sauce on top (forget the name), which was fantastic. Chips and salsa. Literally everything was delicious. Will be hard to try the rest of the menu just because what I had today so good. Well done guys, good luck...
Read moreWhile in town only for the weekend, a chance stop at the mall took my wife & I past El Sol; we are always intrigued with a surprise opportunity for a bite of Mexican food so we had to stop. We were so glad we stopped; the Team working was incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful, stepping us thru the menu options and explaining all the options wonderfully. We decided to eat in as the atmosphere is festive, clean and inviting. The meal sizes were extremely generous, the end results very fresh and tasty; while my wife exhibited self control to only eat some of her bowl and take the rest to go, I lost all self control ;) and ate it all - and these bowls are A LOT of food! As an aside, their chips are a fantastic optional accompaniment. We observed the Team interact with other customers, and they were just as warm and friendly to everyone. It seemed to us this is a Team that is really dedicated to their mission, and they certainly delivered it. We hope to be back in Plattsburgh in the future, and when we are it’s a given we’ll...
