TL;DR Kontiki is pretentious and doesn’t deliver.
We made a reservation- their policy is to take a credit card and in the event you need to cancel you will be charged $25, per PERSON. 40 minutes prior to the reservation I received notice that they are CASH ONLY- which is interesting because you required a credit card for me to reserve a table for 2. I’ve never had a restaurant rub me the wrong way before I’ve even arrived. But then it just got worse from there.
Upon arrival, 5 of the 21 menu items were blacked out and unavailable. That’s about 25% of the menu. From what I was able to order? Mostly disappointments.
Shark attack drink- this was decent. Soup dumpling- came to the table stuck together and torn and you guessed it— no soup inside. Flavor was meek and mild. The host said the dumplings burst because it was “so hot outside.” Hmm, how were they cooked then? I’m pretty sure it requires 212° water to make steam, it wasn’t the 75° day. Bass ceviche- ok flavor, colorful, lacking in the texture department Duck Confit bao- how can meat cooked in its own fat be dry? The veggies on top were not pickled, just raw and there was approximately 2-3 slivers of onions and carrots undressed on top.
Service was abysmal- no one checked on us until after we were done and had asked for the check, in fact we never saw our server at all between ordering drinks (which we waited 12 minutes for at a 5pm reservation and no one else was in the restaurant). Only AFTER paying is when the host actually checked on us and offered her antidote as to why the soup dumplings had burst.
There’s not a single reason to eat here, or for me to return. Unless you like uncomfortable, sticky painted outdoor furniture, IKEA plates and euro trash club music with disappointing food, then this...
Read moreI wish 0 stars, was an option for this DISASTER of a restaurant. I’m a huge believer in giving the benefit of the doubt to anyone, but this place deserves no benefits at this time. Yes I am referencing the newer location which just opened maybe a couple weekends ago.
It is cash only BUT somehow they take credit card information for reservations and will charge you $25.00 a person if you’re a no show (I question the legality of this). They have a menu but for reasons unbeknownst to me, they blacked out several items on their menu, the arguably good items. Then they have typos on the menu, for example they have a “tiger salad” which is written out to come with crispy shrimp NOPE that’s a typo, there is no protein with that salad.
Their food selection is insanely expensive. This is the best part folks, THEY AUTOMATICALLY ADD 22% TIP TO LARGE PARTIES. THEY CONSIDERED 5 PEOPLE A LARGE PARTY. THEY THINK SO HIGHLY OF THEMSELVES THAT THEY WILL ADD A TIP INTO YOUR BILL. Maybe because they know people are going to tip at the rate they are going. I have never reviewed a restaurant in my life, so you can imagine that if I’m willing to go out of my way to make this review that there has to be authenticity behind everything I say....
Read moreWe stumbled upon the super fun Polynesian vibe restaurant Kon Tiki at the new Gallery Hotel in Greenport. The food was delicious- poke bowl- kimchi fried rice- bok choy- dumplings and a creative cocktail menu. The decor and ambiance is fun and playful- bamboo walls- mood lighting- loungey- and a fun welcoming crowd. The staff made the experience a true delight. Shunny- our beautiful waitress- was so warm and welcoming. We felt like guests in a special home. Manager Jonathan could not have been nicer and shares his family's tasty recipes such as seared tofu that was the best I'd ever tried. We finally feel like we found our Sat night spot for good vibes, food, and atmosphere in Greenport! Kon Tiki is- in a...
