In response to Jennifer's review:
The espresso concentrate that Good Harbor uses for their iced drinks is not, as you so kindly put it, "old coffee." It's cold brewed coffee made with a toddy - this is a process that is very commonly used in many coffee shops, including some in Traverse City. No, it does not taste the same as hot espresso shots poured over ice, but that does not mean that it is an invalid method of making iced drinks. I highly doubt that Good Harbor's owner is going to change this because it is their standard process and, again, it is totally acceptable in comparison to industry standards. (In addition, the cost of a double shot of quality espresso on average is anywhere from $.60-$.80 cents per shot, not $.05 as you assume. The price of coffee worldwide has skyrocketed in the last five years. Add to that the cost of labor and other necessities like rent, and you have yourself low profit margins even with beverages priced at $5 a piece.) If you were really that dissatisfied, you could have asked your barista to re-make your beverage using hot shots and I'd be willing to bet that they would have happily obliged - at no extra cost.
Good Harbor has excellent baked goods,...
Read moreTo start, I love coffee. I think Traverse City has fantastic coffee shops and I am never disappointed in Good Harbor's baked goods. BUT I went to Good Harbor this morning and noticed how they make their iced lattes/ iced coffee drinks and was incredibly disappointed. I had ordered an iced latte and asked for whichever size includes a double shot of espresso. The girl behind the counter acknowledged that I asked for this. Most coffee shops will add a double shot of espresso, mix in the milk to cool it down and then ice it up. I watched as the barista pulls out a large container of cold coffee out of the fridge and uses that to mix in with milk instead of fresh espresso. The taste was terrible. Watered down and I paid $5.00 for a coffee drink. When you pay $5 for a coffee you expect that you will get a double shot of espresso (that costs .05 cents), not old coffee that has been chilled. Either way, I am never going back even though they offer unbeatable sweets. There are too many other fantastic coffee shop options. Hopefully this will encourage the owner to...
Read moreThis has been my family’s favorite coffee shop for years, and I know that it’s a favorite of many other locals. It’s the best simple cup of coffee in town. My order is basically always the same - coffee (whatever unflavored roast is on offer that day) with room for cream (real half and half that you add yourself) and a blueberry lemon scone (they aren’t particularly moist which means they go perfect with a cup of coffee). My kids love the kid’s hot cocoa with whipped cream, and whenever there are holiday iced butter cookies they love to get those too. It’s a small shop with stool seating for maybe 4 people inside and a few small tables outside. Service is friendly - just go in and go all the way to the left to order drinks and then move along to the right and order bakery items from the cashier, then move around the corner to the right to wait for your drinks after you pay. There are usually parking spots available on the street outside, and if not there are also two spots in the parking lot next...
