For my wife’s birthday
Juniper for my birthday!
First cocktail was the blu 75 - I’m a gin girl so I typically go for whatever spin a restaurant has for a French 75. This was good but sweeter than I prefer
Appetizer-crab cakes. We generally always try crab cakes anywhere we go. These were good, though far from the best we’ve had. Sauce wasn’t very flavorful, but the arugula had a nice balancing zest. The crabcakes weren’t breaded (how I prefer them) but I would have liked a longer sear/crust
Wes got the Caesar salad- he said it was good but had a ton of crumb on top and the way they stacked it, when he went to cut it, it seesawed crumbs all over the table😂
I got the beet salad which would have been more aptly named “a huge pile of arugula with 5 small pieces of beet”. I love arugula but when I order a beet salad I expect BEETS🤌🏼 I was honestly disappointed with this😩
Wes got the stroganoff and the bite I tasted was very good, I’d go back just to get that. He said the tenderloin was cooked well and tasty
I got the rack of lamb. It was delicious but they chops were the smallest I’ve ever seen in muh life. The portion was super small and I was gnawing every morsel of meat off them bones. The pistachio crust and chimchurri sauce was excellent though. However I do not think it was worth $49. Go to Napa Flats for this instead. Delicious, hearty portion, and considerably cheaper.
The star of the show was the Juniper cocktail with cucumber infused gin. I wanted 10 of these. Excellent. Going to try to recreate this at home
For dessert, the chocolate pie. Was good but super sweet and nothing special
For dessert drink I got the vodka coffee cocktail. It was strong on the vodka, nice and bitter. It paired well with the chocolate pie
Overall, a mixed review. It’s not one that I’m like “omg you have to try”, but I’d go back to explore the other menu items. And I wanted that stroganoff for myself and 10 of dem...
Read moreMaybe I came here on an off night. It was a Tuesday evening. I was excited to try out this restaurant from the reviews I had read.
Because my airplane was delayed, I wasn't able to arrive until 8:15 PM. The restaurant closes at 9:00 PM. I ordered the five-course meal plus the wine tasting. I was forewarned by my waiter that the courses "may come closer together since the kitchen closes at 9 PM." The waiter wasn't joking. He put one course down before I had finished the other. Same with the wine. After the third course, I requested that the kitchen slow their roll so that I could actually enjoy the experience and the food. I understand staff wanting to go home, but have some pride in what you do and in your restaurant.
Someone aside from the server delivered the scallop, exclaiming, "Here's the scallop". There was no explanation of the dish's accompaniments. When the waiter dropped off the wine that paired with the dessert, I had to ask what it was. He turned around and said, "oh, it's a port". When the dessert was delivered, the waiter exclaimed that the kitchen had gone home and this was the best he could do. Wow. Despite the food being good, I feel like I wasted $140. The service was not commiserate with the cost.
I wish I would have followed my instinct and had gone to FarmBar, but I read on Tuesdays they only have a pop-up menu and I really wanted to try a variety of food.
I felt hurried the entire time. In fact, the bartender was doing his entire closeout procedures which included taking out the trash and loudly dragging the container back in across the floor in the area where I was sitting.
In any case, this restaurant seems to have gotten complacent and could care less about the customer experience. For a highly priced restaurant, I expect more. It has potential but the staff needs some serious retraining.
Lastly, the upholstery needs replacing (at least in the bar area). It's...
Read moreAte here in August for a celebration. The host we interacted with was absolutely amazing. I do not have her name, but she made a solid conversation and was very informative. We talked about California a little bit as she had lived there as well. Our waitress was eccentric and polite, but barely spoke with us. I requested the Vegetarian Tasting Menu and recieved an item with meat, but she exchanged it quickly. With that being said, I recommend the tasting menu.
My partner had the traditional tasting menu and enjoyed everything. I had the Vegeterian Tasting Menu w/ wine pairing. I did not finish the wine nor the cocktails we ordered. I had the Jalepeño Peacharita and the kick was pleasant. Just enough to tickle the tongue. We ordered the Charcuterie Board prior to the tasting menu and that alone was plentiful. I loved the fresh blackberries, crostini, cheeses, and nuts.
The dessert (Justin's Favorite Chocolate Pie) is a must if you are a chocolate fan! The base is an Oreo Crust, but there is chocolate cool whip and ganache. Delicious!
The only thing I did not love was the pasta that I recieved (w/ the Vegetarian Tasting Menu). It was salty. Perhaps too much pesto? Regardless, their were beautiful chunks of heirloom tomatoes in my pasta that helped balance it out (which may have been the purpose).
The restaurant was clean and I didnt have to battle flies buzzing around my plate like so many other places do in the summer heat.
I do suggest eating here if you are having any doubts. The staff overall is great. We had an additional waitress come by as well and enjoyed speaking with her (again, didn't catch names). Im generally not super social, but I do like talking about culture, food, and travel!
I am so happy that I found a nice place for us to eat for my celebration.
Thank...
