Completely UNDERWHELMING. Pretty much all the way around. Like anything downtown, parking is difficult(I was reminded again why I don't go there to spend my money). I arrived at the end of the lunch rush; it was very busy when I got there, about 1:30. Took awhile to get seating for one, although it was available. Being my first time there, I had to ask if I was supposed to seat myself; apparently sweeping is much more important. Three employees walked right by me, completely ignoring my presence. Staff was civil, but certainly NOT friendly. WiFi was a problem, never could get online, and they weren't helpful about it; I had business to attend to, which I had to go to another establishment to complete. Food looked nice, but minutes after eating part of a Chicken Monterrey Sandwich, I thought my stomach was going to EXPLODE! Instant violent and painful gaseousness, a product of bad chicken I could only presume. The sandwich itself was rather tasteless and the chicken was almost thinking about being warm- awhile ago, maybe. Just short of ice-cold, really. 1st cup of hot tea was ok, but after I asked to move to a table that would hold all of the food I ordered, the next cup had a DISTINCT FISHY SMELL AND TASTE. The potato leek soup was barely warm, certainly not hot. I visited this place because of the good reviews; these people must've been drunk and probably would've eaten road-kill and thought it was sublime. I have been a waitress, so I tend to deal sympathetically with a place that is struggling, but this experience was so far under the bar, and the staff was so uncaring that I quickly lost all sympathy, as within 10 minutes of arriving, the place cleared OUT. The ONLY way I would return here is if the manager invited me to be his personal guest and personally oversaw the preparation of the meal and served it himself to assure quality. Darn shame. I had hoped to start exploring downtown restraunts thinking that the revitalization of downtown would make them want to entice long-term customers. Why is it that if you receive a simply DECENT meal with simply DECENT service, you feel like you've won the LOTTO? This place has no pride, it is existing on the past laurels of drunks. No, I didn't complain, the staff didn't give a rat's behind. But I won't go back. Might be an ok bar because it has a LOT of beer, and it LOOKS 'cozy,' ....but they just performed a HUGE FAIL. Not worth the effort to negotiate the...
Read moreLove the bartenders that work there and manage the bar on the 1st level and a couple on the 2nd level. They?are Very good with drink & food orders. A couple have a great memory, especially when you are having a taste of 300 different beers (just to get a mug). They get an idea of your tastes, so they are able to recommend new beers when they get them in each month.
The food in general is decent, especially their burgers, and a lot of people hit the 1/2 priced burger night on Wednesdays. They do offer a bean burger and the "I can't believe it's not burger", but you can't get it for 1/2 price.
The soups there are yummy, and apoetizers are pretty decent: The Artichoke Dip, Roasted Garlic Hummus, Fried Pickles, and the pulled Pork Nachos (a good size proportion to share and could have as your meal), are choiced I would recommend.
When I am thinking light and yummy, especially when your are having a few tasty brews, I go to the small Spinach salad with the Salmon. The dressing is great and the Salmon usually cooked just right.
As far as other food that I have tried and recommended, other than the spinach salad and soups, is the Lobster Roll (a lityle pricy), Shrimp Po Boy (outside of the south of course), and the "Beyond Brats". Items that my friends have tried are the Cajun Meatloaf, Blackened Chicken Mac n Cheese, and the Cuban to name a few.
I hated that they had to raise the price on a lot of items, but whatever it takes to hopefilly keep the goid bartenders around.
Honestly, it was my "Cheers" bar for a whole, as they did know me by my name (along with a pet name), fun and nice to talk with the bartenders, and just a good hang out spot for trying new beer. I did make it to 300 though. Lol. Now to get that Mug.
Oh yeah... The St Patty's event is crowded but it is a very fun time. Get your table, get there early, just get thete and have...
Read moreWent tonight for a get together with friends. Didn't realize it would be so many until we got there and ended up being ten people. I know it's not the greatest to just show up with ten people but thought we would try. We were greeted by the hostess who was very taken back by the amount of people I apologize several times and she asked me if I would prefer to sit outside or inside. Due to her reaction when I told her our party size I told her we would be flexible and would sit where ever they would like us to. She then pretty rudely said "well if it's ten then you have to sit outside" I thought to myself then why ask me? We got outside in 96 degree weather and they asked me if a table directly in the sun was okay, because the lady already acted like we were a burden already I said yes, luckily one of my friends asked to sit in the shade and the lady rudely said sure and threw the menus down on the table. I wanted to leave right then because my anxiety was so high and I didn't wanna be a burden. We stayed regardless. The waitress an older lady was super nice and super helpful and is the reason this review is three stars, (she was also tipped accordingly as we are a group of ten adults who understand the struggle of working during this time), but the first interaction with the hostess was terrible and honestly kinda ruined it for us. I would have been more understanding if the place had filled up while we were there but the outside and inside were not busy at all and multiple large tables tables were empty inside and out the entire time we were there. I just don't understand the hostility and attitude from the hostess, definitely did not make us want to return....
