By far my greatest disappointment while visiting Tybee.
We arrived with a 30 min wait, which was expected, we were actually pleased it wasn't longer but we were very hungry as we skipped lunch. We took the opportunity to look over the to go menu.
The hostess who seated us was indifferent, not very welcoming and only gave 1 of the kids a kids menu to color on. It took 15 minutes to get the other one and then my child had to go stand and wait at the hostess podium to get it.
We asked our waitress if we could order right away because we were starving, and she took our orders. We didn't get our appetizer until we got our salad which was the same time we got our dinner. We weren't happy. We had to ask repeatedly for drink refills, condiments, etc...service was terrible. It even took 10 minutes for her to take our payment...I left my bf inside to pay and took kids to the car.
Food oh my gosh: Son ordered chicken fingers and fries. Fries were like great value precooked frozen crinkle fries, so gross not even a 6 yr old ate them. Chicken he said was greasy and chewy so I tried them and he was right...yuck.
My daughter ordered a hot dog, waited so long for mustard that she gave up and ate it plain. She too tried the fries and wouldn't eat them.
My boyfriend had a chicken sandwhich and salad which he admitted was mediocre at best.
I love seafood. I have liver disease and cannot have much fat or grease, so I ordered GRILLED shrimp and GRILLED scallops along with crab cakes and a baked potatoe and salad. The salad was freezing cold with no flavor. Potatoe was warm, but not hot enough to melt the solid cold pat of butter. The crab cakes were just yucky...I think they were deep fried instead of pan seared and more stuffing than crab. I ate 1 shrimp and 1 scallop that were so drenched in grease (please see puddle of grease on bed of lettuce) that it literally made me sick.
Overall horrible experience at Spanky's and I do not recommend...
Read moreI was out on Tybee with my 90-yr old mother when she needed to use the restroom. She’s using a walker and was slow to walk. Spanky’s just happened to be a few yards away from where were. So I figured we can go ahead and grab lunch there and she can use the facilities as well. It was a few minutes to 11am prior to their opening time but the doors were unlocked and open. We got about halfway thru the door when the girl at the bar told us they were still closed. I told her I understood but if she could just let my Mom use the restroom before she pees on herself and then we’d be happy to wait outside. She said absolutely not…not before opening time. I was literally begging her and even offered to pay $10, $20, or name her price. She insisted that we cannot come in and should use the restrooms at the pier instead. I understand she’s following policy but I’ve managed many restaurants before and I never turned away someone in need, especially the elderly.
We left and walked next door to Fannie’s. They were also still closed but when I told the ladies there our situation, no questions asked, they let my Mom in and allowed her to use the restroom. One of the ladies even helped her into the restroom . I offered them some cash as a gift of thanks but they refused. They said it was no problem and they were happy to help. We ended eating there and the entire staff were just absolutely great!
So, just a word of advice, if you’re elderly or disabled, I would avoid Spanky’s! Head to Fannie’s next door instead. Service is great and food is fabulous at Fannie’s!
Interestingly, on our way back to the car we had to pass by Spanky’s again. While Fannie’s was packed and people waiting outside, Spanky’s was dead as a door nail! I...
Read moreUgh, where do I start…Tried calling to make a to-go order - no answer. Understandable if they’re busy so I decided to walk in to get a to go order. Was directed to go to the bar to make a to-go order, waited more than 5 minutes to finally be acknowledged. I had already looked online and knew what my family wanted to order but apparently the menu online is not correct as the Crab Dip that is shown in the Beachside Spanky’s online menu they don’t have. The bartender/server seemed irritated as she handed me the menu to decide. Everything else was available that I planned. Wait time for the food was reasonable but when asking for the malt vinegar that is supposed to come with the fish and chips the same bartender made it seem like I was inconveniencing her by asking. Got the malt vinegar and made my way back to our Airbnb. Food was accounted for except the mayonnaise I’d asked for with my sandwich. However, all the food ranged from sub-par at best to inedible. Fries did not seem fresh and were not salted. Fish for the fish and chips was undercooked and inedible. The Mahi Mahi sandwich ordered tasted like canned tuna (somehow?!) and not the quality I would expect at a beachside restaurant. All in all I could have overlooked the service had the food been good but food was below standards and I don’t recommend. Really a bummer when you’re on vacay - especially as this place is so...
